Alaska Wildlife Troopers and Willow EMS/Rescue personnel responded to a
report of a capsized boat on Kashwitna Lake near mile 76.5 of the Parks

recreating at a friends cabin on Kashwitha Lake. Withey woke up at 0630

unsuccessfully attempted to bail the water out. Withey abandoned the
boat and swam to shore then proceeded to walk around the marshy edge of
the lake approximately one mile to his friend's cabin. At approximately

and idled over to it. The pilot attached the boat to his float, towed
it to shore and notified Troopers. At 1330 hours, Responding Troopers
and EMS Rescue Personnel including the MatSu Dive Unit began a
coordinated grid search of Kashwitna Lake to look for any sign of
Withey. Two private aircraft that were in the area assisted in an
aerial search of the lake. At approximately 1450 hours, Troopers

cabin and was fine. Troopers contacted Withey and further investigation
revealed that Withey was intoxicated while operating a watercraft and
was arrested for Felony DUI. Withey was also charged with Violating his
Conditions of Release which prohibited the consumption of alcohol,
following a previous Felony DUI conviction. Withey's bail was set at
$10,000 cash with a Court Approved Third Party and he was remanded to
