The governor of Iowa, Chet Culver, is coming to Anchorage this weekend to talk “renewable energy and green job creation.”
He'll first speak tomorrow from 6 to 7 p.m. at a monthly forum the Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP) holds at the Anchorage museum.
Culver will then be the 5 p.m. keynote speaker at the annual Alaska Renewable Energy Fair being held on the Delaney Park Strip.
The Des Moines Register politics blog (which of course had to use as its headline “Culver heads to Sarah Palin country”) reports that REAP is paying for Culver’s travel expenses.
The Register writes that:
Iowa currently ranks second nationally in wind generation output with nearly 2,900 megawatts installed with 2,056 turbines across the state, and Iowa leads the nation in wind generation as percentage of total power output at 15%. Over the past five years, more than 2,300 wind energy jobs have been created in Iowa, Culver’s staff noted.
