Dog Blog

The Dog Blog is a community of ordinary dog lovers who have come together to discuss our extraordinary dogs. Each Monday, a new topic is introduced. If you've got an opinion, share it. If not, look for the current "anything goes" topic and introduce a discussion of your own. On Fridays, weigh in about your training questions and successes.
Your host: Mike Lewis is a little-dog nerd and the proud owner of Eddie and Jillian, a pair of Yorkies who think they're huskies, and Lucy, a sweet Chessie. R.I.P., Rusty. Contact mlewis@adn.com

When emergency hits, what do you do with your dogs?

Do you have a plan in place for the occasions when life gets in the way and you need a safe place to take your dog on short notice? A friend? A relative? A kennel?

Do trusted friends have a key to your home? Do they know how to care for your dog in terms of food or special needs?

For as often as it comes up, it's something I usually work out on the fly. But when I start thinking about all the little things I know about my dogs that a dogsitter should know, I'm starting to think I should have some written instructions that are posted at home for easy access.

I'm going to make an emergency-care instruction sheet. What would you put on it?
