This blog is about my return to Walter Reed to get a new leg. I am an above-the-knee amputee. I lost my leg in April 2007 in Iraq while riding in a Humvee that was struck by an "explosively formed projectile" -- a molten metal jet stream released from a homemade roadside bomb. My left knee was shattered and later amputated at Walter Reed. I rushed through rehab to get back to Alaska quickly. But my leg continued to change, and now my prosthetic doesn't fit, and I need to begin again. I'll keep you posted on my progress and experience. This time, it will work.
About me
Joshua Ferguson
I joined the Army in 1996 and my position is as a forward observer. My dad was in the Air Force and I'm the oldest of four with one brother and two sisters. My wife is Danielle, and we have three young children, J.J., 5 in June, Corinne, 3 in July, and little Madeline, 1 this month.
My goal is to complete a full 20 years in the military, and then retire to become a teacher at the elementary or high school levels.

Greetings from the zoo. Danny's mom, stepdad, and our niece came down from upstate NY to visit for her birthday. I got a chance to take Corinne, her cousin Amaria, and Brian out to a Nats noon game yesterday. She ended up with a foul tip in our direction. Corinne, with her photogenic self, thinks she's the cats pajamas now. We were on the big screen a few times when we were dancing and again with our rally caps on.
A friend and I went out to the NRA headquarters last week. They treated us to the day with a two on one tour with Phil Valentine, lunch, a trip to their indoor range, and the highlite of the day.... Jace and I got to play in their vault for a few hours. The only stipulation was that we had to wear the white gloves. Other than that we got a chance to play with everything!
The race was a go. For awhile I was thinking it was going to get called for the rain. It has been raining here pretty much everyday for over a week. The race was great, but we got some signals crossed. The rep that set up the tickets was out of town on business. She left someone else in charge to get us the itinerary. We never recieved it and spent alot of the time running around trying to figure out where we needed to be. I guess we were invited to the drivers meeting and were set to hang out down in the pits for a few hours prior to the race. We even had the pass to drive right out onto the infield so we could park out there! Oh well, we still had a great time, Smoke came in second and our seats were great.
The golf lessons have been coming along. At a minimum I can blame any poor play on my leg ;) I have still been doing the satuirday lessons and I am starting ono on one lessons with Jim Estes on Thursday. We'll see how it has gone, I am playing in a charity event on Friday at the Patuxent River Naval Air Base with our adopted Maryland family. I made a pretty big mistake though. For the time being the Pro-shop lent me a set of clubs to use until we get our new clubs fitted. Well I was out swinging the driver last Saturday and my pro asks to look at my driver. Apparently I had a womens driver in my bag! The mistake was letting Ted know....yeahhhh, I'm not going to hear the end of that one for awhile.
Therapy has been going well. We've been pretty busy day to day. I am having to get used to the heat and humidity again. I hate the weather down here. The only real issue is possible skin breakdown on the stump. I just have to keep a close eye on that with the heat climbing.
It's dinner time, so as Tigger would say, TTFN
