Manage Your Life's Activities with Center'd

Comments (0) |

center'dcenter'dSometimes it takes me a long time to "get" what a software product or site offers. I always blame my "mommy brain" on not always understanding how something works or why I'd want to use it. The site Center'd was one of those big question marks in my head. What in the world was Center'd all about, I'd wonder.

Finally, after getting a demo from a company rep, the purpose of Center'd became clear. In a nutshell, Center'd is a site to help you plan your life's activities, both the personal and casual as well as those requiring more complex organizational coordination such as managing volunteers for an event.

Planning an Event

On the personal/casual front, Center'd makes it easy to plan a get together with friends such as Sunday brunch in the city. You can make a plan from scratch by entering a title of the event, a description, add an RSVP option, enter a place option to put it up to a "vote" or specify a location, enter the date or put that up to vote as well, add an image if you'd like and then email potential participants.

A link to the resulting Event plan page is emailed to everyone you've invited and nobody but you - the organizer - needs to register on the site to vote and RSVP.

Getting a little more complex, you could use Center'd to organize a potluck. In addition to setting up a basic event plan and page, you can add specific tasks allowing others to claim tasks. So in the case of a potluck, you could add a task for two people to bring entrees, three people to bring side dishes, two people to bring desserts, and one person to bring beverages. Once someone claims the task, everyone can see what tasks remain.

On a very complexed level, Center'd can be used to manage volunteers for organizations and events. According to the site's spokesperson, so far they haven't reached the limit to how many volunteers can be managed by Center'd - hundreds, maybe even thousands.

Finding the Perfect Place

Center'd continues to add in new features and functionality including the ability to perform local searches. For example, if you are looking for something to do over the weekend in Anchorage, you might find out that there is an exhibit to see at a particular museum. Center'd will then provide links to restaurants in the area. If any of your friends on Center'd have been to and commented on any of the restaurants nearby via Center'd, the site will also let you know and you can read their review.

I guess you can say Center'd is every organizer's dream: an automated, easy-to-use, online application to keep track of the planning details of events.

Make Center'd AK-Friendly

I'd highly recommend that Anchorage-ites visit and use Center'd, but more importantly, that we all add value to the site for others in our area by adding our reviews and feedback about places to go. I'm setting up my Center'd account today and getting started. The more we use it, the more it becomes useful for us, not just folks down in the Lower 48!
