Forty-six members of the Colony High School marching band are getting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform in the Jan. 20 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington D.C. The band is the only active high school marching band in the state, and the invitation to represent Alaska coincides with the 50th anniversary of statehood. A few band members agreed to share their experiences with the Daily News as part of their trip.

Today was a very eventful day.

It started out at the Washington Monument which was incredible, I've seen it before but I have never actually been close to it.

Then my group went the the WWII memorial and got pictures taken around the Alaska sign.

We were going to go into the Lincoln Memorial but it was closed because Obama was there either earlier in the day, or was going to be there soon.

After the Monuments we went to the Holocaust Museum. This was my second time seeing it because I saw it on my first trip to D.C. with the marching band my sophmore year summer. Its very moving, way better then a history class, and you learn a lot more because you go through a lot of emotions walking through the entire Museum.

Next my group went to the American History Museum. We had to stand in line for a little while because the museum was too full and they had to wait for people to leave. While standing in line we met "Abraham Lincoln." It was pretty funny.

Also on the way to the museum a guy found out that we were from Alaska and asked to have one of us sign his hat because he was trying to get a person from every state to sign it. So I decided I would.

We all had to be back at the bus at 6 p.m., but there was a huge accident which delayed our bus so we all decided while we were waiting to start singing songs which was pretty entertaining for a while.

After that was dinner at a buffet, and now we are back at the hotel and about to go to sleep so we can be rested for our huge day tomorrow.

I'm very excited and can not wait to be part of this once in a life time memory.
