Case number: 08-9347
Type: Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography, Electronic
Distribution of Indecent Material to a Minor
Text: On 2-18-08, Desiree Pritchard, of Ridgecrest CA, reported to AST
that she had just discovered that her thirteen year old daughter was
"cyber dating" a 29 year old sex offender who resided in Talkeetna, AK.
Investigation revealed that John W. Adams, age 29, met Pritchard's
daughter while playing the on-line game Everquest II. At first, Adams
pretended to be a 13 year old boy, then later revealed he was much
older. Adams was found to have sent the 13 year old a web camera, a
Zales necklace and teddy bear, and sent pornographic images to the girl.
Adams had been previously arrested by APD in 2001 for possessing and
distributing child pornography and served almost two years federal time
for the offense. He was required to register as a sex offender.
Investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, with assistance
from ICE and the FBI, served a search warrant at Adams residence in
June, 2008. Several pieces of electronic media were seized, and then
later processed for electronic evidence. Over three thousand images of
child sexual abuse were found. On 12-29-08, ABI investigators arrested
Adams at his residence without incident. He was remanded to Mat-Su
Pretrial in Palmer. Bail was set at $50,000 and court approved third
party.
This incident can serve as a good reminder for parents to talk to their
children about people they meet on-line. Please visit the National

COMMISSIONER JOE MASTERS ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING INACCURATE STATEMENT
IN TROOPER AFFIDAVIT
"It has come to my attention that recent affidavits filed under oath
with the court and signed by investigators were inaccurate, as well as
speculation made by a trooper spokesperson. I can unequivocally state
that this investigation was handled, and progressed, in a normal fashion
and there were no delays due to the timing of the election. The
affidavits inaccurately stated that the accused, Sherry Johnston, was
"no longer under the protection or surveillance of the Secret
Service". Ms. Johnston was not under Secret Service protection or
surveillance. I personally consider it imperative for investigators
to submit accurate sworn testimony in each and every court proceeding
and the court will be notified of this inaccuracy. Also, contrary to
the impression that might have been given by a department spokesperson,
it is not alleged that Sherry Johnston committed any illegal acts during
the limited occasions that she has been in the presence of Governor
Palin.I will be assessing this situation and discussing this matter
with the Trooper and others involved and reiterate the importance for
accurate and clear reporting."
