Trio indicted for sweeping fraud scheme

Three people accused of defrauding Anchorage and Valley business of more than $50,000 during a four-month crime spree have been indicted on 217 felony counts of fraud and theft, according to Anchorage police.

The suspects were the subjects of a two-month manhunt before their arrests, police said. They are:

- Ryan Samuel Burkhart, 25, arrested Nov. 1
- Angie Minnick, 30, arrested Dec. 4
-Wendy “Contessa” Remington, 32, Oct. 9

The three are being held at the Anchorage jail with initial court appearances scheduled for tomorrow, police said.

Police say the trio worked as a group to steal checks and credit and identification cards while conducting a series of mailbox thefts, burglaries and vehicle break-ins. They then used the stolen goods to fraudulently buy goods from local businesses, police said.

At least 20 victims have been identified, and investigators say there may be more.

Anyone who thinks they were victimized during the spree is asked to call Anchorage police at 786-2448 or Palmer police at 745-4811.
