Joey Crabb's A Bonafide NHLer

Comments (0) |

Joey Crabb of Anchorage moments ago became a bonafide NHLer, making his debut in the world's best league by skating the first shift for the Atlanta Thrashers in their home game against Nashville.

Crabb, 25, became the 12th Alaskan to play in the NHL.

The right wing has been with Atlanta for the last eight days after being called up from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. He was a healthy scratch in Atlanta's first three games since the call-up, but realized his dream tonight.

Crabb started the game on a line with center Marty Reasoner and winger Colby Armstrong.

Other Alaskans currently in the NHL, all from Anchorage, are: New York Rangers centers Scott Gomez and Brandon Dubinsky; Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ty Conklin; Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Matt Carle; and New York Islanders center Nate Thompson, who today returned from missing nine games with a groin injury to score his second career NHL goal in a 7-2 loss to Boston.

Other Alaskans who have played in the NHL: right wing Ty Jones of Eagle River; center Brian Swanson of Eagle River; the late B.J. Young of Anchorage, a forward; right wing Barrett Heisten of Anchorage; right wing Scott Parker of Eagle River; and left wing Jason Ryznar of Anchorage.
