You're Newest Ace: Welcome, Lance Galbraith

Comments (0) |

Pending his clearance on waivers later today (UPDATE: He cleared Central Hockey League waivers this afternoon), the newest Alaska Aces skater could be one their most intriguing: Former Idaho Steelheads winger Lance Galbraith, who is a complete package -- he can score and he can agitate.

The two-time Kelly Cup winner with the Steelheads has been practicing with the Aces this week. He started the season with Texas of the Central Hockey League, but left that gig.

Galbraith, 28, last season bagged 22-45--67 totals in 66 games with Idaho and racked 282 penalty minutes. The veteran was a key component in two Kelly Cup titles -- in 2007, he earned 11-16--27 totals in 21 playoff games.

He becomes the Aces' fifth veteran -- each ECHL team is allowed four on the active roster. Galbraith fits into the veteran slot currently sitting empty with defenseman Ed Hill on the 30-day injured reserve list with a knee injury.

Galbraith is the kind of player beloved by fans of his team, hated by fans of the opponents' team -- that's usually about as high a compliment a player can receive.

Look for more on him in the Thursday dead-trees edition of the Daily News.
