Tuesday's trooper dispatches

Two people believed responsible for an attack on another man with fists, feet and a rock Monday afternoon are facing charges of first-degree assault, Alaska State Troopers said Tuesday. Dispatch is below.

Location: Ketchikan
Case number: 08-96647
Type: Disorderly Conduct
Text: On 11/22/08 at 0012 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a
residence in Forest Park for a noise complaint. Troopers gave a verbal
warning to Richard McAlpin, age 47, of Ketchikan, for the loud party.
Less than an hour later, Troopers received another complaint of the
noise and lewd conduct and returned to the residence. Subsequent to
investigation, Kenneth Terpsma, age 25, of Ketchikan, was placed under
citizen's arrest for urinating off a second story balcony, striking a
female in the face. Terpsma was also arrested for an outstanding no-bail
arrest warrant. McAlpin was arrested by AST for the loud noise, which he
failed to cease. Both Terpsma and McAlpin were transported and remanded
to Ketchikan Correctional Center for disorderly conduct.

Type: SAR-Lost/Overdue Hiker

On 11-24-08, at about 2030, members of the Alaska State Troopers and the
US Forest Service responded to the Mendenhall Glacier visitor's center
in response to a report of a lost hiker. The fianc=E9e of Shaun
Schmidt, age 20 of Juneau, reported that she and several friends had
received multiple text messages from Schmidt leading them to believe
that he was lost somewhere near one of the waterfalls at the glacier.
Troopers also received information that Schmidt may have been suffering
from a medical condition. Between 2230 and 2300 a total of 8 volunteers
from Juneau Mountain Rescue and SEADOGS, as well as one search dog were
assigned search areas along the east glacier trail system. At about
0230, as the search was being placed on hold for the rest of the night,
Troopers received a phone call from Schmidt's mother stating that he was
safe and at a friend's house. Follow up interviews revealed that Schmidt
had never really been lost, and had only wanted time alone. In addition
he stated that his text messages in which he stated that he was lost
referred to him being emotionally lost and not figuratively lost.
Schmidt also added that he had not known searchers had been looking for
him. A total of 81 man hours were utilized in the search, the majority
of those by volunteers.

Type: DUI
Text: On 11-24-08, at about 1742 hours, Alaska State Troopers arrested
Vera Douglas, age 26, of Houston, for DUI after the vehicle she
operating was reported as a REDDI. Troopers contacted Douglas on Trunk
Road near the Pioneer Peak School in Palmer. Investigation revealed
that Douglas was driving under the influence of alcohol. Douglas was
arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial where she was remanded to
jail with bail being set at $5000.00.

Type: Expected in Home Death
Text: On 11-24-08 at approximately 0300 hours Alaska State Troopers
received the report of an expected home death at a residence on
Commodore Drive. Investigation revealed that Opal Baird, age 81 of
Wasilla, died of natural causes. No foul play is expected. The body
was released to the family on scene.

Type: DUI/Minor Operating after Consuming Alcohol/MCA
Text: On 11-25-08 at 0402 hours AST responded to a residence near mile
12 KGB for a report of someone driving a vehicle without permission
while intoxicated. Troopers made contact with 18 year old Michael Scott
Phillips of Wasilla, driving a 1998 Nissan Sentra. Investigation
revealed that Phillips was driving while intoxicated. He was arrested
for DUI and remanded at Matsu Pretrial on $500 bail, and issued summons
to appear at a later date for MCA and Minor Operating after Consuming
Alcohol. The vehicle was released to the owner.

Type: Warrant Arrests, Driving While License Revoked
Text: On 11-25-08, at 0509 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted
Richard P. Simms, age 19, of Wasilla near the intersection of Knik Goose
Bay Road and South Bogle Bluff Drive, Wasilla, during a traffic stop for
a moving violation. Investigation revealed that Simms was driving while
his license was revoked and had an outstanding no-bail warrant for his
arrest for Failure To Appear for the original charge of Minor Consuming
Alcohol and Minor Operating a Motor Vehicle While Consuming Alcohol.
Simms was arrested, transported and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial
Facility where he is being held to serve the remaining time on his
sentence. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Cody A.
Mitchell, age 20, Big Lake. Mitchell was discovered to have an
outstanding warrant for his arrest for Failure To Appear for the
original charge of Minor consuming Alcohol. Mitchell was arrested,
transported and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $250.00 bail.

Type: Warrant Arrest / MICS IV
Text: On 11/25/2008, at approximately 0240 hours, Alaska State Troopers
contacted Robert J. Crawley, age 24 of Wasilla. Crawley was the driver
of a vehicle that was stopped for an equipment violation. Investigation
revealed that Crawley had a warrant for his arrest, for FTA on original
charge, Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Trespass II. Crawley was also
found to be in possession of an amount of a schedule IIA controlled
substance. Crawley was arrested on the warrant and MICS IV and was
remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on $5,000.00 bail. Author:

Text: On 11/24/2008, at approximately 1616 hours, Richard Robert Brown
age 23, of Wasilla, was contacted and arrested by a Court Service
Officer at the Palmer Court House and remanded on the Palmer warrant.
Bail was set at $500 cash only.

Case Number: 08-97494

Type: MVC with Moose

Text: On 11/25/2008 at approximately 0749 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a moose.
Investigation revealed Dori Mcghan, age 30, of Big Lake, was driving her
1996 Mercury Sable south bound on Big Lake Road when her vehicle
collided with a moose that ran out in front of her. The moose was
knocked into the northbound lane where William Hashbarger, age 25, of
Big Lake, collided into the moose with his 1995 Jeep Wrangler causing it
to roll onto its roof. Both drivers reported they were uninjured and
wearing seatbelts. The Mercury sustained an estimated $2,000.00 in
damage; the Jeep is estimated to be a total loss. No citations were
given for the collisions. The deceased moose was released to a local
charity.

Location: Kiana

Case number: 08-97425

Type: Assault - 1st Degree

Text: On 11/24/08, at approximately 1600 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
Kotzebue received a report of an assault in the village of Kiana.
Troopers chartered an aircraft to the village and conducted an
investigation. The investigation revealed that Harold Gooden III, age
19 of Kiana, and Jackie Johnson Jr, age 19 of Kiana, had attacked a
33-year-old male in the village. Gooden and Johnson repeatedly punched
and kicked the victim. During the attack the victim was struck in the
back of the head with a rock at least two causing serious physical
injury to the victim. The victim was treated at the Kiana Clinic and
will possibly require further treatment in Kotzebue. Gooden and Johnson
were placed under arrest for assault in the first degree and transported
to the Kotzebue regional jail, where they were remanded without bail.
Alcohol and drugs were a factor in the incident.

Type: Burglary

Text: On 11-25-08 at 0911 hours, Bertha Nesbit of Chuathbaluk reported
to the Alaska State Troopers, Aniak Post that someone had broken into
the Chuathbaluk teen center. Minimal damage was done to the door to gain
entry into the building. The investigation continues.

Type: Criminal Trespass

Text: On 11-22-08, at approximately 1545 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
McGrath received a report of a disturbance. Troopers along with McGrath
VPSO responded to a residence on Chinana St. Gary Egrass age 22 of
McGrath was arrested for Criminal Trespass. Egrass was transported to
the McGrath jail and held pending arraignment. Alcohol was involved.

Case number: 08-96794

Type: Accident with Injury

Text: On 11-21-08, at approximately 1400 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
McGrath received a report of a collision involving two dump trucks at
approximately mile 3 Cranberry Ridge Road. Investigation revealed that
Edward Martin, age 28 of Cooper Landing was east bound on Cranberry
Ridge Road. Martin attempted to yield for traffic and lost control of
his truck. Martin's truck slid sideways into the path of an oncoming
truck driven by Jamie Evan, age 23 of McGrath. Evan struck the side of
Martin's truck causing significant damage to both vehicles. Evan was
trapped inside her truck for approximately 2 hours. After being freed
Evan was flown to Anchorage and is being treated for injuries to both
legs. Neither driver has been cited at this time. Alcohol was not a
factor.

Type: Assault IV

Text: On 11/24/2008 at approximately 1115 hours, the Alaska State
Troopers in

McGrath were contacted about an assault. A female resident of McGrath
reported being assaulted by two other females. The assault was not
domestic in nature. Case is under investigation and will be forwarded to
the District Attorney's office for review.

Type: Trespass

Text: On 11-19-08, at approximately 1100 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
McGrath received a report that a home inside the city limits of McGrath
had been entered illegally. The owner of the home is out of town and
has not been contacted. McGrath VPSO responded; investigation revealed
that an unknown person entered the home. Nothing appears to be missing
at this time. Investigation will continue after the owner is notified.

Type: Warrant Arrest

Text: On 11/25/08, Dillingham based Alaska State Troopers arrested 21
year old Twyla Gloko of Manokotak, in Manokotak on an outstanding arrest
warrant issued by the Dillingham Court. Gloko is charged with felony
Alcohol Importation. Gloko was remanded to the Dillingham Jail with a
$500.00 bail.

Type: Assault IV/DV & Warrant Arrest
Text: On 11/24/08 at approximately 1956 hours AST Kodiak was contacted
by a 28 year old female from Kodiak reporting that she had attempted to
enter her residence tonight and her 30 year old boyfriend refused to let
her enter the residence. It was further reported that as she attempted
to enter the residence the door was slammed on her right hand. An
application for an arrest warrant was submitted and was secured
following the investigation, for the boyfriend. The boyfriend was
contacted back at the residence hours later and taken into custody
without incident. He was remanded at the Kodiak Jail.

Text: AST responded to a 2 vehicle MVC on 11/24/08 at 0721 hrs at the
above intersection. A 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling westbound
through the intersection on a steady green traffic signal by William R.
Holland Jr, 25, of Fairbanks. A 2009 Subaru sedan, driven by Lawrence
A. Chouinard, age 18, of Anchorage, already stopped at the intersection
intent to turn left (northbound) onto Ballaine Rd suddenly turned /
failing to yield into oncoming traffic.. Holland was unable to avoid
colliding with the sedan. Both vehicles impacted separate traffic
devices after the crash. A DOT traffic light / traffic signal /
directional pole was damaged to the point where it's instability
warranted it to be taken down for repair or replacement by DOT.
Investigation ongoing. Any motorists who may have witnesses this crash
are asked to contact Troopers (attn: Trp Tellep) at 451-5100.

Location: Paxson

Case number: 08-97467

Type: Natural Death

Text: On 11-25-08 at approximately 0453 hours, AST received report from
Lee Harper in Paxson who reported his wife Reba J. Harper 69, of Paxson
collapsed and was unconscious. Harper called 911 and started CPR, but
was unable revive Reba Harper. Delta EMS arrived and pronounced Harper
deceased at the residence. AST investigation determined Harper had
ongoing illnesses and died of natural causes. The State Medical
Examiners Office was contacted and the body was released to family. The
Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home was notified and also responded. Next of
Kin was on scene. No foul play was involved.

Text: On 11-25-08 at approximately 0818 hours, Fairbanks AST received a
report of a motor vehicle collision on Chena Hot Springs Rd., near Rifle
Rd. Investigation revealed Ronnie Boyle age 59, of North Pole operating
his 2001Toyota Sedan collided into the back of a stopped Laid law School
bus operated by Sharon Zimmer age 68 of Fairbanks. None of the 26
juvenile passengers were injured. Damage to both vehicles is estimated
to be under $2,000.

Type: Disorderly Conduct

Text: On 11-21-08 at approximately 1720 hours, Troopers responded to a
reported male staggering in and out of traffic near mile 158 of the
Sterling Highway. Troopers contacted Thomas Barclay, 39 yoa of Anchor
Point, and placed him under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. Barclay was
transported to the Homer Jail where he was remanded with $250.00 bail.

Text: On 11-21-08 at approximately 2305 hours, Troopers contacted
Nathaniel Cook, 24 yoa of Nanwalek, when the vehicle he was operating
was stopped for an equipment violation. Cook's operator's license was
found to be in a suspended status and he was placed under arrest for
DWLS. Cook was transported to the Homer Jail where he was remanded with
$500.00 bail.

Type: Violate Conditions of Realease - Interefer with Report of Domestic
Violence

Text: On 11/21/2008, at approximately 2221 hours, AST received a report
of a 911 hang up call on Star Court in the Homer area. Investigation
revealed that Patrick Halbur, age 29, of Homer, had violated his
conditons of release by contacting his wife and returning to their
residence. Investigation also revealed that a disturbance had occurred
and the phone line was disconected while 911 was being dialed. Patrick
Halbur was placed under arrest and remanded to Homer Jail wiithout bail.
Charges against Halbur for VCOR x 2 and Interfering with a Reoprt of
Domestic Violence were forwarded to the DA's office.

Text: On 11-24-2008, at approximately 1639 hours, Alaska State Troopers
initiated a traffic stop near mile 14 of Funny River Rd on a vehicle
being operated by Roy A Rudy, age 26 of Oregon, for driving 18 MPH in
excess of the posted speed limit of 45 MPH. A pursuit ensued, which
ended when Rudy lost control of his vehicle and veered into the ditch.
Rudy was subsequently arrested as a Fugitive from Justice out of Oregon
and for Felony Elude, Misconduct Involving Weapons III, Failure to
Register as a Sex Offender I, No Valid Operator's License, No Liability
Insurance, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance VI. Rudy was
transported to and remanded at Wildwood Pretrial Facility without bail.

Type: Violation of Instructional Permit

Text: On 11-25-08, at approximately 1315 hours, Alaska State Troopers
stopped a vehicle being operated by Curtis Roy Young, age 24 of Kenai,
for an equipment violation. Young was issued a summons for driving in
violation of his instructional permit. A third party was contacted and
arrangements were made for Young and the vehicle to be transported.
