An Anchorage man accused of shooting a passer-by during an alcohol-fueled confrontation in Girdwood this weekend is facing charges of assault and misconduct involving a weapon, troopers said. Dispatch is below.

Text: On 11/23/08 at approximately 0250 hours Alaska State Troopers
responded to reported burglary and theft from a residence located Green
Forest Drive in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that at approximately
0248 hours, an unknown individual entered an occupied residence and
stole two women's purses. The purses and contents are valued at
approximately $1500. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the
Alaska State Troopers at 745-2131 or the Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

Text: On 11/23/08 at approximately 0103 hours Alaska State Troopers
responded to a theft from a parked vehicle. The theft occurred at a
business located on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway near N. Shoreline Drive
in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that sometime between 2330 hours on
11/22/08 and 0100 hours on 11/23/08, an unknown individual entered an
unlocked pickup truck and stole a laptop computer, a backpack, and a
large duffel bag full of clothing. The laptop computer is valued at
approximately $1500, the backpack approximately $60, and the duffel bag
of clothing approximately $200. Anyone with information is encouraged
to call the Alaska State Troopers at 745-2131 or the Crime Stoppers at
745-3333. Investigation is continuing.

Text: On 11/23/08 at approximately 2312 hours the AST South Central
DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle for erratic driving near the
intersection of the Parks Hwy. and Pittman Rd. in Wasilla. The operator
was identified as William L. Murray II, age 28, of Wasilla. Murray was
found to have a revoked driver's license. Murray was issued a summons
to appear in the Palmer Court for DWLR and the vehicle was parked at the
request of Murray as he could not locate a licensed driver to respond
for the vehicle. Murray requested to walk from the scene to a nearby
store and was instructed not to drive until properly licensed. At
approximately 2344 hours, Murray was observed driving the same vehicle
from the parked position to the Tesoro station at the Parks Hwy. and
Sylvan Rd. Murray was contacted again and arrested on two counts of
Driving While License Revoked. Murray was remanded to the Mat-Su
Pretrial Facility where he was held on a $4,000.00 bail. The vehicle
was impounded.

Text: On 11/23/2008, at approximately 0202 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a 911 call at a residence in Big Lake for a report of a
Burglary after the fact. Investigation revealed that Gordon Kamholz,
age 21 of Big Lake, had cut phone lines, damaged property and
burglarized a residence Near Big Lake. Kamholz was arrested for Burglary
II, Criminal Misc III, Criminal Trespass II and Criminal Misc IV.
Kamholz was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on $5000.00 bail.

Text: On 11/23/2008 at approximately 2224 hours the AST South Central
DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Big Lake
Rd. and Kenlar Rd. in Houston for an equipment violation. The operator
of the vehicle was identified as Eddie L. John, age 19, of Houston.
John was found to be operating the vehicle without a valid driver's
license. John was issued a summons to appear in the Palmer Court for

a licensed driver.

during an investigation of an abandoned vehicle. Investigation revealed
that Strom had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on the
original charge of Driving While License Suspended. Strom was arrested,
transported and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial, where he was held on

Text: On 11-24-2008 at approximately 1424 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to report of a two vehicle head-on collision on Grumman Circle
near Travel Air Drive in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Sarah
Beaudry, age 29, of Wasilla, was driving east on Grumman Circle in her
2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Melba Obrien, age 60, of Wasilla, was driving
a 2007 Bluebird School Bus, operated by Laidlaw, west on Grumman Circle
with three children and one adult on board. Beaudry was approaching the
narrow curve on Grumman when she observed the school bus coming around
the curve, traveling in the opposite direction. Beaudry attempted to
stop her vehicle to allow the school bus more room in the curve.
Beaudry's vehicle began to slide on the icy roadway and crossed the
center lane, colliding with the school bus. The driver of the school
bus sustained minor injury to her wrist. No other injuries were
reported. The damage to the school bus was estimated to be
approximately $3500.00. The damage to Beaudry's vehicle was estimated
to be approximately $3000.00. Beaudry was cited for failure to exercise
due care to avoid a collision. Both parties reported wearing their
seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Text: On 11/24/2008 at 1605 hours, AST stopped a 2002 Silver Chevrolet
Cavalier for failure to signal on the Parks Highway near Crusey,
Wasilla. During the course of the traffic stop, the driver, Shaun J.
Cardenas, age 33, of Wasilla, exited his vehicle and approached the AST
vehicle. Cardenas acted aggressively and became verbally abusive. AST
gave Cardenas several commands to return to his vehicle, which he
ignored. Cardenas was arrested for disorderly conduct and remanded into
the custody of MSPT on $200 bail.

Text: On 11/01/08 at 0130 hours, while on patrol, the Village Public
Safety Officer in New Stuyahok contacted several juveniles near the New
Stuyahok high school. Investigation revealed that 14 year old A.N., 17
year old A.N. and 20 year old N.E. had consumed alcohol. The VPSO
transported the juveniles to their respective dwellings and forwarded
three minor consuming reports to the Division of Juvenile Justice in
Dillingham.

Text: On 11-22-08 at approximately 1255 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report that a trap site at the Newhalen River near Iliamna
had a trap and an animal stolen from it. Investigation identified tire
tracks on the scene and two possible suspects. One of the suspects, a
22 year old male of Iliamna, admitted he had stolen the trap and a
wolverine in the trap. The animal and trap were recovered. Charges are
being referred to the Dillingham District Attorney's Office.

Text: On 11-22-208 at approximately 0539hrs United States Coast Guard
(USCG) Military Police (MIL POL) reported to AST they had responded to a
report of an altercation at a residence on Aviation Loop. On USCG MPs
arrival at that residence one of the parties to an assault, Joanne Ray,
40, of Kodiak had already departed the area in a vehicle. Joanne was
later taken into custody on separate charge of DUI by the Kodiak Police
Department. AST responded to the Aviation Loop residence and contacted
William Ray, 38, of Kodiak. AST investigation determined that an assault
occurred between both Joanne and Ray.Charges are being referred to the
DAO.

Text: On 11-23-08 at approximately 2355 hours a 51 year old female
resident of the Village of Old Harbor called the Village Public Safety
Officer in Old Harbor and reported her intoxicated husband had
threatened her. The VPSO responded to the scene to investigate, after
which the victim's 57 year old husband was arrested and charged with
Assault 4th Degree / Domestic Violence. Old Harbor is located
approximately 65 miles southwest of the City of Kodiak and may only be
reached by plane or boat. The following morning the man was transported
by plane from Old Harbor to the Kodiak and remanded at the Kodiak City
Jail.

break in at the Alaskan Steakhouse. Investigation determined someone
broke out an office window on the front of the building and entered the

taken from the business. Damage to the window was estimated at $500.00.

revoked. Velie was issued a summons to court.

where she was held without bail. The warrant was for failing to appear

Text: On 11/23/2008 at approximately 0700 hours, an employee of the
Kodiak Sportsman Lodge, in Old Harbor, Nikkia Atkins, shot a 7 =BD foot
sow brown bear which had broken into a game cleaning and storage area.
The bear had torn the door off of the storage area and hauled away deer
meat and capes on two previous occasions. Damages are estimated at less
than $1000.00, the VPSO was contacted and assisted. The hide and skull
were salvaged and sent to Kodiak ADFG.

Kittleson 26, yoa of Kasilof. Kittleson was sport fishing through the
ice on Big Lake using a treble hook. Kittleson was cited. Bail was set
at $110 in Palmer Court.

Type: Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II
Text: On 11-20-08 at approximately 1616 hours, an interdiction was
conducted on a parcel bound for Ketchikan from California during a joint
operation in Juneau involving the Southeast Alaska Cities against Drugs
(SEACAD) task force. This operation also consisted of members of the US
Postal Inspector's Office, Anchorage DEA task force, Juneau PD, Valdez
PD and the National Guard Counter Drug Support unit. Investigation
revealed miscellaneous items and ninety-five "eighty mg" Oxycontin
tablets were found concealed inside of the parcel. The estimated street
value of the Oxycontin tablets is $17,100. Investigation continues.
The Southeast Alaska Cities against Drugs task force is comprised of
Alaska State Troopers and local police officers in Petersburg, Haines,
Sitka, Ketchikan, Skagway, Wrangell and Juneau. The Alaska State
Troopers / Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement (ABADE) is
partially funded by a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance,
United States Justice Department.

Type: Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV
Text: On 11-22-08 at approximately 1339 hours, Southeast Alaska Cities
against Drugs (SEACAD) task force responded to a residence in Haines
suspected to have marijuana grow. Investigation revealed a hydroponic
grow had been constructed within an out building on the property. The
marijuana had already been harvested and removed prior to the arrival of
SEACAD. The hydroponic grow was taken down and removed from the
residence. Investigation continues.
The Southeast Alaska Cities against Drugs task force is comprised of
Alaska State Troopers and local police officers in Petersburg, Haines,

Text: On 11/24/08 Nome ABADE received a call from a local air carrier in
Nome, AK stating that a damaged postal parcel had alcohol bottles
inside. Investigation revealed that the box was headed for Savoonga, AK
and contained 10-750ml bottles of alcohol. Suspect(s) have been
identified and the investigation continues.

Type: Assault I
Text: On 11/23/2008 at approximately 1230 hours, Soldotna AST dispatched
received a 911 call reporting a male lying in blood in the road at
Arlberg and Alyeska Highway near the Alyeska Resort. Anchorage Fire
Department also received a call and dispatched Girdwood Medics. The
victim was identified as Brian Phelps, age 31. Phelps was transported by
Girdwood Medics to Providence Hospital where he underwent surgery for
multiple gunshot wounds. During investigation Girdwood AST was contacted
by David Yannello, age 29 of Anchorage, who provided a statement about
the incident. Investigation resulted in the arrest of Yannello for
felony assault. He was transported to Anchorage and remanded to custody.
The case is under continuing investigation by the Alaska Bureau of
Investigation.
