If CNN’s exit polls are to be believed, the ladies like Mark Begich.

The network’s exit polling indicated gender played a role in Begich’s victory, with 55 percent of women and 39 percent of men supporting Begich.

Of course, a flaw in the exit polling is that a third of the ballots cast in this race were early and absentee. The firm hired by CNN, Edison Media Research, interviewed voters coming out of polling places on Election Day.

They interviewed 1,263 voters in Alaska’s Senate race.

The results also suggest 54 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds voted for Begich, as compared to 39 percent who chose Ted Stevens.

The rest chose one of the other candidates in the race.

Stevens’ support, according to CNN, came from white men, who favored him 59 percent to 35 percent for Begich.
