Tough Times For Becks

Comments (0) |

As a fan favorite among the Cowbell Crew -- after all, he helped the Alaska Aces to the 2006 Kelly Cup -- goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu is beloved in these parts.

Alas, Becks is having a rough go of it in his new gig with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. It doesn't help that the Americans are the worst team on the 29-team circuit, falling to 2-14-1 after Wednesday night's 5-2 loss to visiting Toronto.

Beckford-Tseu, who stopped 27 shots, fell to 2-8-1 with a 3.98 goals-against average and .862 save percentage. Entering the season, Becks' career marks in three AHL seasons were a 33-30-7 record, 2.73 goals-against average and .897 save percentage. It probably helped that the Peoria Rivermen, the team he played for in those three seasons, were a combined 29 games above .500 in that span.

Conversely, it doesn't help that he's now on a club that features four guys who have already hit double digits in the minus column of the plus-minus stat and doesn't have a single regular with so much as an even rating (you've gotta feel for center Shawn Matthias, who is -17 in 17 games).

One of Becks' teammates is rookie defenseman Luke Beaverson, the former UAA Seawolves captain. He went -1 Wednesday and owns 0-1--1 and -3 totals in seven games.

Also in the 'A' on Wednesday, former Aces sniper Chris Minard's 14-game points streak to open the season fell by the wayside in a 3-0 win over visiting Syracuse. Still, he owns 14-10--24 totals and a +10 rating in 15 games.

Meanwhile, Chicago Wolves right winger Joey Crabb scored his fifth goal of the season, and second short-handed strike, and also added an assist and a +1 rating in a 5-4 win at Lake Erie. Joey owns 5-5--10 and +9 totals in 16 games.
