Congrats To The Conklins (Plus, NHL Injury News; Kronschnabel Up To AHL

Comments (0) |

Congrats to Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ty Conklin of Anchorage -- he and his wife, Erika, on Saturday welcomed their third child, and second son, when Erika gave birth to Nash, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

Conklin here in a few minutes is scheduled to start against one of his former teams, Edmonton. (UPDATE: Conklin snagged his fifth career shutout with 21 saves in a 4-0 victory).

Meanwhile, also in the NHL, New York Rangers center Scott Gomez of Anchorage tonight is sitting out his third straight game with an injury. The Rangers aren't say what that injury is, but various reports peg it as an ankle injury.

Also out is New York Islanders center Nate Thompson of Anchorage. He's out of the lineup tonight for the fifth straight game with a groin injury.

And former UAA Seawolves center Charlie Kronschnabel is headed up to the American Hockey League after being promoted from ECHL Bakersfield. Chuck, who owns 1-4-5 and -4 totals in 13 games for Bako, is headed to the Iowa Chops. The Chops -- love that silly name -- entertain Quad City on Tuesday night.

Kronschnabel last season as a rookie earned four games with AHL Portland, registering an assist. Portland then was affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks. Iowa is now a Ducks affiliate.
