We are starting by posting the Alaska State Troopers' daily logs, our own crime-related stories and other relevant items as we come across them. An alleged thief who stole and used a VISA credit card 19 times to rack up more than $2,500 in debt has been indicted by a Fairbanks grand jury on 19 counts of fraudulent use of an access device, troopers said. Dispatch is below.

Type: Theft

Text: On 11/13/08, at 1100 hours, AST received a report of a theft in
Gustavus. A Gustavus resident reported that on 11/8/08, her wallet was
removed from her vehicle while it was parked at the beach in Gustavus.
Estimated loss is $100.00. Case is under investigation.

Case number: 08-94137

Type: MVC-I

Text: On 11-13-08 at approximately 1524 hours, AST responded to a single
MVC on Trunk Road near Palmer Wasilla Highway. Leila Watford, age 47 of
Palmer, was traveling N/B on Trunk Road, in a red 1996 Kia Sportage,
when she lost control and rolled her vehicle. Watford reported injuries
and was transported to MSRMC by EMS. Watford was wearing her seatbelt.
The vehicle was totaled. No citations were issued.

Case number: 08-92546

Type: Theft in the 2nd Degree

Text: On 11-07-08 at approximately 1430 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report from Greg Nelson, age 51 of Fairbanks, that his wallet
was stolen from the top of a gas pump in Kokhanok. He had left it there
after pumping gas and returned a few mintues later to find it gone.
There was $953.00 in cash in the wallet. There are no suspects at this
time and the case is still under investigation.

Location: Newhalen

Case number: 08-93965

Type: Domestic Violence Assault in the Fourth Degree (2 counts)

Text: On 11-12-08 at approximately 2150 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of a domestic violence assault in Newhalen. Troopers
responded with the Newhalen VPSO to the residence and the investigation
revealed that Charles Waskey, age 26 of Newhalen, had assaulted a 20
year old female and a 17 year old male, also from Newhalen. Waskey was
arrested for two counts of Assault in the Fourth Degree. He was later
transported to the jail in King Salmon pending his arraignment.

Type: Warrant Arrest

Text: On 11-12-08 at approximately 1400 hours, Alaska State Troopers
arrested Aleck Paul Cusma III, age 31 of Nondalton, for an outstanding
warrant. Cusma was transported to the jail in King Salmon pending his
arraignment.

Type: Probation Violation

Text: On 10/29/08 at approximately 0600 hours, VPO's in Gambell
contacted received a complaint of intoxicated people at a Gambell
residence. Upon investigation VPO's determined that Yvonne Slwooko 30
yoa of Gambell and Wilson Oozeva 55 yoa of Gambell were both on
Probation and not to consume alcohol. Gambell is a dry community.
Slwooko and Oozeva were arrested and transported to AMCC without
incident.

Case number: 08-93273

Type: Reckless Driving

Text: On 11/7/08 at 1200 hours, Harris Topkok reported to VPSO Winfred
Olanna that someone had damaged his snow machine after he had parked it
on a trail near Brevig Mission. The incident is under investigation and
anyone with information about the damage to the snowmachine is asked to
contact Nome AST at 800-443-2835.

Case number: 08-93507

Type: Probation Violation

Text: On 11/11/08 at 0100 hours, Jason Kaningok 32 yoa was arrested
after violating his probation conditions by consuming alcohol. Kaningok
was transported to AMCC without incident. Gambell is a dry community.

Case number: 08-93778

Type: Probation Violation/DV Assault in the Fourth Degree

Text: On 11/12/08 1146 hours, VPSO Peratrovich received a report of a
possible DV Assault occurring in Savoonga. Investigation determined
Kevin Kava, 43 yoa of Gambell, and Daisy Kulowiyi, 32 yoa of Gambell,
were both intoxicated and in violation of their probation by consuming
alcohol. Both were arrested and transported to Nome without incident.
Kevin Kava was also charged with one charge of assault in the fourth
degree after additional investigation revealed he had assaulted a
female. Savoonga is a dry community.

Case number: 08-93805

Type: Assault in the Fourth Degree

Text: On 11/12/08 at 1329 hours, VPSO Paniptchuk received a report of a
possible assault in the community of Shaktoolik. Both parties were
questioned and VPOS Paniptchuk is attempting to located witnesses to
determine the validity of statements received. Investigation into this
incident is ongoing.

Text:

On 11/13/08 at approximately 1500 hours, AST contacted and subsequently
arrested Axel Christopher MOORE, 20YOA of Emmonak pursuant to a $3000
arrest warrant stemming from an Emmonak Police Department assault report
that occurred on 11/12/08. MOORE was taken into custody without
incident.

Type: DUI

Text: On 11/29/08, Stebbins VPO's made contact with Ron Kirk, of
Stebbins after receiving information that he was driving while
intoxicated. Investigation determined Kirk to be operating a motor
vehicle while intoxicated and he was arrested and charged with Driving
under the influence. Kirk was arraigned and transported to AMCC.

Text: On 11/12/08 at approximately 1416 hours Mariann David (19 YOA of

11/12/08. Case is under investigation.

Text: On 11/12/08 at approximately 1320 hours AST investigated the
damage of the arraignment room audio/video control box at the Yukon
Kuskokwim Correctional Center (YKCC) in Bethel by inmate Steven Hootch
(19 YOA of Emmonak). Damage to the control box is estimated at $50.00.

Location: Kotzebue to Buckland

Case number: 08-94016

Type: Search and Rescue

Text: On 11/13/08, at 0042 hours, State Troopers in Kotzebue were
notified that Bryant Tikik Jr., 28 yoa, of Kotzebue was overdue after
departing Kotzebue at 4:00 p.m. on 11/12/08, traveling to Buckland.
State Troopers learned that Tikik was traveling on an orange Arctic Cat
snow machine, but friends and family members were unable to provide a
description of his clothing as he had not been seen since the early
morning of 11/12/08. A hasty team was dispatched from Buckland and
searched the trail to Kobuk Lake, but was unable to locate Tikik. At
8:30 a.m. on 11/13/08 search and rescue teams from Buckland and Kotzebue
continued to search the trail between Kotzebue and Buckland. Aircraft
were unable to assist due to freezing rain and icing conditions.
Shortly after 7:00 p.m. State Troopers were informed that Bryant Tikik
Jr. had been located at a shelter cabin and that he was being helped
back to Kotzebue by search and rescue personnel. State Troopers would
like to thank the Buckland and Kotzebue Search and Rescue teams for
their efforts. State Troopers would also like to thank the Selawik
Search and Rescue team who put themselves on stand by status in the
event their services were needed. State Troopers would like to remind
travelers to file a travel plan with family or friends before traveling
this winter season.

Case number: 08-94196

Type: Reckless Driving, Operating a Vehicle without a Valid Operator's
License, Probation Violation

Text: On 11-13-08 at approximately 1536 hours, Kotzebue Troopers
received a report that Anthony Adams, 18, of Kivalina was intoxicated
while operating his snow machine in the village of Kivalina. After a
Kivalina police officer made contact with Adams, Adams showed signs of
impairment and was uncooperative. Adams was subsequently taken into
protective custody and was later released when sober. Investigation
determined that Adams has no valid drivers license and is on probation
with conditions that he not consume any alcohol. Due to weather
conditions Troopers were unable to travel to the village of Kivalina.
Investigation is continuing. Anyone with information regarding this

Type: No Insurance

Text: On November 12, 2008, at about 2245 hours, Alaska State Troopers
contacted John P. Huntington, 21 of Fairbanks, on a traffic stop.
Investigation revealed that Huntington was operating a motor vehicle
that was not insured. Huntington was issued a summons to appear in
court and released from the scene.

Case number: 08-84828

Type: Theft 2, Fraudulent Use of an Access Device x 19

Text: On 11/3/08 Alaska State Troopers initiated an investigation into a
credit card theft and subsequent use of the card. Stephen Fitzgerald,
54 yoa of Fairbanks, reported that William M. Hinton, 43 yoa of
Fairbanks, stole a VISA card, jewelry, food, and a generator valued at
approximately $2500 from his Swenson Ave residence on 10/9/08. The
VISA card was used at Fairbanks area stores approximately 19 times
between 10/9/08 and 10/21/08 with a total loss of approximately $2500.
After an extensive investigation by AST, which included multiple search
warrants to recover evidence, AST arrested Hinton on 11/7/08. A grand
jury indicted Hinton on 11/12/08 on nine felony counts of Fraudulent Use
of an Access Device. Another felony theft count is pending, and the
remaining 10 misdemeanor counts of Fraudulent Use of an Access Device
will be added to Hinton's charges by the DAO.

Type: DUI
Text: On 11/13/08, at approximately 0206 hours, a Trooper from Girdwood
contacted Francisco Mejia-Calvillo, age 36 of Anchorage, near the
intersection of Ocean view Dr. and the Seward Hwy. in Indian after a
passing motorist reported that Mejia-Calvillo's vehicle was in the
ditch. Following an AST investigation Mejia-Calvillo was arrested on
the charge of DUI and eventually transported to the Anchorage Jail where
he was held on a $250.00 bail.

Location: Tenakee Springs - Corner Bay USFS Road System

Case Number: 08-93053

Type: Fail Validate Deer Harvest Tag

Text: On 11-9-08 Alaska Wildlife Troopers on board the PV Enforcer made
contact with Tion E. Kasnick, age 34, of Juneau, AK as he returned from
a deer hunt on the Corner Bay USFS road system. Investigation showed
Kasnick had taken a deer earlier in the day and when checked at the dock
he had not tagged the deer. Kasnick was issued a bail able citation
with a fine of $160.00 and given a optional court date of November 19,
2008 at 0900 hours in the Juneau District Court.

Case Number: 08-93054

Type: Fail to Validate Deer Harvest Ticket

Text: On 11-9-08 at 1454 hours, The Alaska Wildlife Troopers on board
the P/V Enforcer contacted Fred Hopkins, 34 years of age, of Juneau with
a deer he had shot earlier that day. Further investigation revealed
that Hopkins failed to validate his deer tag. Hopkins was issued a
citation for failing to validate his 2008 deer tag. An optional
appearance arraignment is scheduled for November 19th, 2008 at 0900
hours at the Juneau District Court.

Type: Boating Safety- No Personal Flotation Device

Text: On 11-7-08 at 1400 hours, The Alaska Wildlife Troopers on board
the P/V Enforcer contacted Troy J. Rogers, 24 years of age, of
Petersburg outside of the Petersburg boat harbor without enough personal
flotation devices on board for all passengers. Investigation revealed
Rogers only had one PFD on board for two people. Rogers was issued a
citation with a fine of $110.00 and given an optional court appearance
of November 20th, 2008 at 1000 hours in the Petersburg District Court.

Type: Marijuana Grow
Text: On November 12, 2008, Adult Probations and Soldotna Patrol
contacted William G. Patrick, age 52, of Anchorage, in reference to a
Probations warrant. Patrick was living at a residence in Sterling, AK,
with his son, John J. Patrick, age 25. During a search of the residence,
a commercial marijuana growing operation was discovered. SCAN
investigators responded and served a search warrant. During the search
they seized a 54-plant marijuana grow. Charges will be forwarded to the
District Attorney's Office. William G. Patrick was arrested by Adult
Probations on the warrant.

Text: On 11-13-08, at approximately 1600 hours, Judicial Services
arrested Jimmie Richardson, age 29, of Anchorage on an outstanding
warrant
charging him with failure to comply with bail conditions. This warrant
stemmed from an original charge of Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Richardson was lodged at the Anchorage Correctional Complex.

Type: Fugitive from Justice
Text: On 11/13/08 at approximately 1430 hours, the U.S. Marshall
Fugitive Task Force arrested Brandon J. Castner, Age 32, of Anchorage.
Castner was arrested in the Penland Park Trailer Court, in Anchorage, on
a Governor's Arrest Warrant issued by the State of Nevada on the charges
of Burglary and Grand Larceny. Castner was transported to and remanded
in the Anchorage Correctional Complex with no bail.
