We are starting by posting the Alaska State Troopers' daily logs, our own crime-related stories and other relevant items as we come across them. The Daily News encourages community engagement and discussion of issues of crime and criminal justice. Comments are not edited and will be posted immediately. Three masked assailants waving pistols entered a home on Williwaw Way Tuesday night and robbed its resident, according to Alaska State Troopers. Dispatch is below.

Text: On 11/12/08, at 1500 hours, Joel McLean, age 20 of Juneau, was
arrested on three outstanding arrest warrants at a residence in Juneau.
McLean's warrants were for failing to appear in court on the original
charges of Probation Revocation and DUI, and Violating his Conditions of
Release. McLean was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on
$1,300.00 bail.

Type: MVC-D
Text: On 11-11-08, at about 1743 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded
to Trunk Road and Woodworth Road in Palmer for a report of a motor
vehicle collision. An investigation revealed that Robert Morrow, age
27, of Anchorage, was westbound on Trunk Road in his 1993 Ford Bronco.
Morrow lost control of his vehicle on the snow and ice and crossed the
centerline where his vehicle collided with a 2005, Chevy Suburban,
operated by Celia Williams, age 44, of Palmer. Both vehicles sustained
an estimated $5000.00 in damage. Both drivers were wearing seat-belts
at the time of the collision and no injuries were reported.

Type: MVC-I
Text: On 11/11/08 at approximately 1815 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a motor vehicle collision on Palmer Wasilla Highway and
Hyer, Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Stephen Sundby, age 52, of
Wasilla was eastbound on Palmer Wasilla Highway in a 2003 Dodge Pickup.
Sundby's vehicle was stopped for a steady red traffic light at the
intersection of Palmer Wasilla Highway and Hyer when his vehicle was
rear ended by an eastbound 2000 Honda Civic operated by Natasha Timmons,
age 16, of Wasilla. Sundby reported no injuries and was wearing his
seatbelt at the time of the collision. Timmons was transported to the
Matsu Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Timmons
was also wearing her seatbelt. Sundby's vehicle sustained minor damage
and Timmons' vehicle sustained over $5,000.00 of damages. Timmons was
issued a citation for exercise due care to avoid a collision.

Location: Wasilla

Type: MVC-D
Text: On 11-11-08 at 1800 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded to a
2 vehicle collision at the intersection of Pittman Road and the Parks
Highway in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Den Delaney (18 YOA of
Wasilla) was driving a 1994 GMC pickup southbound on Pittman Road when
he was unable to stop at the intersection at the Parks Highway. The GMC
pickup slid into the intersection and struck a 2006 BMW that was
northbound on the Parks Highway at the intersection with Pittman Road.
The BMW was being driven by Michael Styers (49 YOA of Big Lake). The
BMW suffered major damage to the passenger side. The GMC suffered
approximately $2,000.00 in damage; the BMW suffered approximately
$10,000.00 in damage. No injuries were reported and all occupants
reported wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Delaney was
issued a citation for Basic Speed.

Text: On 11-11-08 at 1712 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded to a
2 vehicle collision on the Parks Highway at the Hyer Road off ramp.
Investigation revealed that a 1993 Ford Explorer that was being driven
by Max McLinn (46 YOA of Wasilla) was unable to stop at the icy
intersection and struck a 2007 Toyota SUV that was being driven Brenda
Shelden (41 YOA of Palmer). The damage to the Toyota is estimated at
$4,000.00. The damage to the Ford is estimated at $2,000.00. No
injuries were reported and all occupants reported wearing seatbelts at
the time of the collision. McLinn was issued a citation for Basic
Speed.

Type: MVC-D / NVOL
Text: On 11/11/08 at approximately 2155 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Trunk Road just
north of Woodworth, Wasilla. Investigation revealed that an unoccupied
tan 1991 Ford Explorer was left parked on the roadway on Trunk Road
around a curve. A southbound white 2005 Ford Expedition, operated by
James Bunch, age 30, of Wasilla, came around the curve and tried to
avoid the parked Explorer. Bunch was unable to avoid colliding with the
Explorer. Bunch's vehicle slid into the Explorer. After colliding with
the Explorer, Bunch's vehicle collided with a northbound red 2003 Audi,
operated by Anthony Rodriguez, age 24, of Palmer. Both Bunch and
Rodriguez were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Both reported no injuries. Both vehicles sustained heavy damages to the
front end. The driver of the Explorer, Benjamin Shubert, age 20, of
Anchorage, returned to the scene during the collision investigation.
Shubert was issued a summons for NVOL and a citation for parking on the
roadway.

Type: Assault IV/Criminal Mischief V
Text: On 11-11-08 at 1916 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded to a
domestic disturbance at 700 Rainbow Drive in Wasilla. Investigation
revealed that James Noble (18 YOA of Wasilla) assaulted a family member
while at the residence. Noble also broke a picture frame inside the
residence valued at $5.00. Noble was arrested and booked at the Mat Su
Pre Trial Facility on the charges of Assault IV and Criminal Mischief V.

Type: Robbery 1, Assault 3, Theft
Text: On 11/11/2008 at 2108 hours Alaska State Troopers received a
report from an individual stating that three suspects armed with pistols
had entered her residence on Williwaw Way. The individual stated that
the men pointed their pistols at her and demanded money. The individual
stated that she was not able to identify the suspects because they were
wearing masks. Investigation revealed that the three male suspects had
taken approximately $100.00 cash and a Play Station 3 and had left in a
newer model red Chevy Monte Carlo. Anyone with information regarding
this case is asked to call the Alaska State Troopers at 373-8300 or

Text: On 11/12/08 at approximately 0717 hours, Trp. Leventry was turning
his 2004 Ford Crown Victoria Patrol Vehicle around on the Palmer Wasilla
Highway near 49th State Street when a 1999 Hyundai driven by a male
juvenile was unable to stop and collided with the left rear of Trp.
Leventry's vehicle. All individuals reported wearing seatbelts and
being uninjured. Damage to both vehicles is estimated at approximately
$4000.00.

Type: Death Investigation

Text: On 11/12/2008, at approximately 0005 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of CPR in progress at 9291 West Easy St., Big Lake.
Investigation revealed that 56 yoa, Robert Michael Smith of Wasilla had
died at his residence of natural causes. Next of Kin were on scene at
the time of death. The State Medical Examiners Office was contacted and
released the body to the family. No foul play is suspected.

to a property near Palmer Wasilla Highway and Trunk Road to arrest
Deanna L. Amerson, age 37 yoa of Palmer, on an outstanding arrest
warrant. Amerson was arrested without incident and remanded to MSPT
where she was held on the $1,000.00 cash only bail for Failure to Appear
for Pre-Trial Confinement on the original charge of False Information.

Type: Criminal Mischief IV
Text: On 11/09/08, approximately 1008 hrs., State Troopers received a
report of criminal mischief which had occurred in Manokotak.
Investigation revealed that sometime between 1600 hrs., on 11/08/08 and
1000 hrs. on 11/09/08, someone had broken the driver's side mirror on
the Manokotak Trading Company's delivery truck. The damage was
estimated to be valued at approximately $100.00. The investigation is
ongoing by the Manokotak VPSO.

Type: Search and Rescue

Text: On 11-8-08 at approximately 1350 hours the Alaska State Troopers
in McGrath received a report from RCC of an ELT signal 30 miles east of
McGrath. RCC advised the signal was picked up by satellite. Since the
initial signal two more satellites have over flown the location and have
not heard the signal. No information is known about the aircraft. Kenai
flight service advised they have no reports of over due aircraft in the
area. Search aircraft have been dispatched.

Text: On 11/10/08 at 1507 hours, Mary Edwards, age 73 of Holy Cross
contacted the Alaska State Troopers to report that her son Sergie
Phillips, age 46 of Holy Cross took her Permanent Fund Dividend to
Anchorage and has not returned. The investigation is still ongoing.

Text: On Tuesday 11/11/08 at approximately 1235 hours AST Kodiak was
advised of a motor vehicle rollover near Aviation Hill on Rezanof Drive.
Investigation revealed that Maurice Castro, 62 years old of Kodiak was
traveling east bound on Rezanof Drive, when he lost control of his
vehicle, a green 1992 Ford Explorer on icy roads near the intersection
with Cape Decision Road. The vehicle exited the opposite side of the
road and rolled over onto the vehicle's top after going into the ditch.
Castro was seat belted in and was not injured. The vehicle sustained
minor damage.

Text: On Tuesday 11/11/08 at approximately 1151 the Kodiak AST was
informed of a vehicle in the ditch near the rodeo grounds on Rezanof
drive. Investigation revealed that Tonya Lee, 39 years of age from
Kodiak was driving her 2003 green Suzuki XL7 west bound on Rezanof Drive
near mile 8.5, when she lost control of her vehicle on icy roads and
slid into the ditch on the north side of the road. Neither Lee or her
five year old passenger were injured in the accident, Lee was seat
belted and the five year was in a seat belted booster seat. Damage to
the undercarriage was estimated at approximately $3000.00.

Location: St. Michael

Case number: 08-93467

Type: Assault

Text: On 11/10/08, Unalakleet AST received a report from the VPO in
St. Michael that a female adult had been assaulted by her boyfriend
Leroy Kobuk, age 31 of St. Michael. Investigation revealed that on
10/25/08, Kobuk had assaulted the victim. The victim was treated at the
St. Michael Clinic and the Norton Sound Hospital in Nome. Then on
11/9/08, Kobuk assaulted the victim again, striking her multiple times
again on the area where she had been assaulted on 10/25/08. Both
incidents were reported to AST at the same time on 11/10/08. Alcohol
was involved in the first assault, but not the second. The victim is
recovering from her injuries, which are not life threatening. On
11/10/08, Kobuk was arrested and lodged at the St. Michael Jail, he was
later transported to Nome for arraignment on charges of Assault in the
Second Degree and Assault in the Fourth Degree.

Type: Use of Illegal Trapping Bait

Text: On 11-7-08, 32 year old Einer E. Walter of McGrath was charged
with one count of using illegal bait for trapping. The charge resulted
after an investigation showed that Walter had two marten traps set which
were baited with breast meat of grouse which was still attached to the
carcasses. Walter was warned during the 2007 trapping season for using
an unbreasted grouse carcass for trapping bait. The traps and the grouse
were seized in the field, and three more unbreasted grouse were seized
from Walter's trapping gear at his residence in McGrath.

Type: Use of Illegal Trapping Bait

Text: On 11-12-2008, 32 year old Einer Walter of McGrath pled Guilty to
one count of Using Illegal bait for trapping. The charge resulted after
an investigation showed that some of his marten traps were baited with
grouse carcasses with the edible portion of the breast meat still
attached. Walter had been warned for the same thing during the 2007
trapping season.

Walter was fined $500 with $250 suspended and was placed on probation
for two years.

Type: Take Sub-Legal dall Sheep

Text: On 11-12-2008, 55 year old Gary L. Caldwell of Westminster, CO
pled Guilty in McGrath District Court to one count of taking a sub-legal
Dall Sheep. The charge resulted after Caldwell was contacted in the
field in September, 2008 with a sub-legal Dall Sheep that he had just
killed while on a guided hunt in the Alaska Range. The investigation
showed that Caldwell shot the sheep after his guide told him that it was
a legal ram. Due to the fact that the guide had instructed him to shoot
the sheep, Caldwell was placed on probation for one year, and the meat,
cape, and horns of the illegal sheep were forfeited.

Type: Failure to Salvage

Text: On 11-12-2008, 55 year old Terry W. Lacy pled Guilty in McGrath
District Court to one count of Failure to Salvage all edible meat of a
moose. He was fined $3,000 with $1,500 suspended, and was placed on
probation for one year. The moose antlers which were seized during the
investigation were forfeited.

AK Bureau of Alcohol & Drug Enforcement

Case number: 08-92053

Type: Warrant Arrest, License or Permit Required

Text: UPDATE: On 11-07-08 at approximately 1500 hours, Alaska State
Troopers with the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team from
Kotzebue and Nome flew in a state aircraft to serve arrest warrants on
former Selawik VPSO Richard Mashburn, age 52, and his spouse, Lydia
Mashburn, age 51, both of Selawik. The warrants had been issued for the
production of, and possession with intent to sell, 19.5 gallons of
homebrew alcohol, which had been seized from their residence on
11-05-08. The two were located in their home and arrested. Inside the
residence, State Troopers located an additional 11 gallons of homebrew
alcohol, which was seized. Both Richard and Lydia Mashburn were
transported to Kotzebue Jail. They are being held on the original
warrants and two additional counts of License or Permit Required each.

Type: Felony Importation of Alcohol to a Local Option Area, Presumption
for Sale

Text: On 11-5-08 WAANT investigators intercepted a shipment of (24) 1.75
liter bottles of distilled spirits that Togiak resident Dan Dawson
shipped to himself in Togiak. An arrest warrant was issued and Dawson
was arrested and charged with Felony Importation of Alcohol to a Local
Option Area, Presumption for Sale. A WAANT investigator and Togiak
Police Officers served a search warrant on Dawson's residence and seized
66.48 liters of distilled spirits, 26 liters of wine, a keg of beer, and
precursors for the manufacture of alcohol. Investigators also seized
illegally possessed raw ivory and firearms. Investigation continues and
additional charges will be considered by the district attorney's office
and the U.S. attorney.

Text: On 11/12/08,at approximately 0845 hours, Falaniko Wong-Sin, age 44
of Anchorage, was contacted during a routine background check at the
department of Public Safety in Anchorage. It was determined that
Wong-Sin had an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant for Failing to
Appear on the original charge of Assault. Wong-Sin was arrested and
remanded to the Anchorage Department of Corrections Complex on $1,500.00
