Ex-Aces Winger Robinson Heating Up

Comments (0) |

After a sluggish start to the ECHL season, former Alaska Aces winger Matt Robinson is heating up for the Johnstown Chiefs.

Robbie bagged two goals, a helper and a +2 rating Wednesday in a 7-4 Kids Day Game matinee win over visiting Cincinnati before 1,402 at Cambria County War Memorial. That three-point effort extended his points streak to four games -- he is 3-4--7 and +7 in that span after starting 0-1--1 and -6 in the Chiefs' first seven games. (Not a bad day for Matt's linemates, either -- Andrew Sarauer went 2-4--6 and +2 and Ryan Garlock went 1-3--4 and +3).

Matt's always been a streaky sort. Last season with the Aces, he went 1-0--1 and -3 in his first six games, then 2-7--9 and +5 in the next five, then 0-0--0 and -3 in the five games after that. Later in the season, he put up a five-game run in which he went 5-3--8 and +4.

As a rookie, Robinson started 1-1--2 and even in his first seven games. (Puckheads with elephant-like memories may recall that in that span, Robinson's younger brother Garrett was badly injured in a car accident, and Matt took emergency family leave). Anyhow, Matt Robinson later enjoyed rookie streaks of 8-5--13 and +11 in 13 games and another streak of six goals in six games.

Oh, and Johnstown has won five straight to improve to 8-3-0.
