We are starting by posting the Alaska State Troopers' daily logs, our own crime-related stories and other relevant items as we come across them. The Daily News encourages community engagement and discussion of issues of crime and criminal justice. Comments are not edited and will be posted immediately. Troopers have arrested a man on assault charges after he allegedly stabbed someone and tried to run others over while drunkenly fleeing the scene. See the dispatch below.

Text: On 10-30-08, at approximately 1912 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to the report of a disturbance at an address on C Bell Street
in Palmer. Investigation revealed one of the persons involved; Dustan D.
Reynolds age 19 of Palmer, was wanted on an outstanding Arrest Warrant
for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Minor Consuming Alcohol.
Reynolds was arrested and transported to MSPT where he was remanded
into custody on $1200.00 bail.

Text: On 10-30-08, at approximately 1334 hours, AST responded to a MVC
on Palmer Wasilla Highway (PWH) near Hyer Road. Investigation revealed
that Star Theodore, age 47 of Big Lake, was traveling W/B on PWH, in a
yellow 2002 school bus, when Jeremiah Sheppard, age 22 of Wasilla,
crossed the center line, in a red 1989 Mazda pickup, and hit Theodore
head on. Sheppard reported injuries and was transported to MSRMC by EMS.
Theodore reported no injuries. Occupants of each vehicle were wearing
seatbelts. Damage to the school bus is estimated at $6,000.00 and
Sheppard's vehicle was totaled. Sheppard was cited for Failure to
Exercise Due Care to Avoid a Collision.

Type: Driving in Violation of Instructional Permit
Text: On 10/30/08 at approximately 2320 hours the AST South Central
DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near mile 5 of S. Big Lake Rd. in
Big Lake for a moving violation. The operator was identified as Daniel
C. Smith, age 17, of Anchorage. Smith was found to be operating the
vehicle in violation of the restrictions on his instructional permit.
Smith was issued a summons to appear in the Palmer Court and released at
the scene.

Text: On 10/31/08 at approximately 0226 hours, Troopers arrested Teresa
K. Laager, age 30, of Anchorage for Driving Under the Influence. Laager
was contacted as the driver of a vehicle which was stopped for erratic
driving near the intersection of the Parks Highway and Vine Road.
Investigation determined Laager was impaired by alcohol. Laager was
transported and remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility and released
to a sober third party.

Text: On 10/30/08 at approximately 1937 hours, the AST South Central
DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle at Grand Ave. and McPherson St.,
in Sutton, for a moving violation. Investigation revealed Sam Dolfi,
age 56, of Sutton, was operating the vehicle with a revoked driver's
license. Dolfi was issued a summons to appear in the Palmer Court for
Driving While License Revoked and released at the scene.

Text: On 10/30/2008 at approximately 2343 hours the AST South Central
DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Big Lake
Rd. and Hollywood Rd. in Big Lake for a moving violation. The operator
of the vehicle was identified as Michael A. Crawley, age 22, of Wasilla.
Crawley was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and
drug paraphernalia. Crawley was issued a summons to appear in the
Palmer Court on the charge of Misconduct Involving a Controlled
Substance 6th Degree.

Type: Felony DUI, Driving While License Revoked, Reckless Driving,
Making a False Report
Text: On 10/30/2008, at approximately 1609 hours, Alaska State Troopers
conducted a traffic stop on a 1992, Ford, F-150 pick up tuck, driven by
Donald H. Benedix (45) of Palmer on Palmer Fishhook Road in Wasilla for
speeding and reckless driving. Investigation revealed Benedix was
driving under the influence of alcohol, and was driving while license
revoked. Further investigation yielded Benedix was providing a false
identity. Benedix was subsequently arrested for Felony DUI, and charged
with Driving While License Revoked, Reckless Driving, and Making a False
Report. Benedix was transported to Mat Su Pretrial where he was
remanded. Benedix's bail was set at $10,000.00.

Type: Assault III, Assault IV, Kidnapping, MICS VI
Text: On 10-31-08 at approximately 0015 Alaska State Troopers responded
to a residence on Kerry Lynn Lain in Wasilla for the report of a
disturbance. At the residence State Troopers contacted Galen W. Davis,
age 66 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Davis had assaulted his
girlfriend and pointed a gun at her keeping her against her will. After
the victim contacted a friend to come and get her, Davis assaulted them
as well. A subsequent investigation revealed that Davis had a marijuana
grow in the residence. Davis was arrested and transported to Mat-Su
Pre-Trial Facility where he was remanded and held on no Bail.

Type: Assault 1/ Assault 3/ Criminal Mischief 3 / Leaving the Scene/
Tampering with Evidence
Text: On 10-29-08 at approximately 1840 hours AST received a report of a
stabbing at Tonsina Lodge. AST arrived and identified the victim who
was transported to Cross Roads Medical Center after receiving non-life
threatening stab wound during the altercation. The suspect in the
stabbing was identified as Jamie Gilbert, 25 yoa of Chitna. Gilbert was
highly intoxicated and had fled the scene prior to AST arrival. In the
process of fleeing the scene Gilbert attempted to run over several
pedestrians in the parking lot. Gilbert also damaged a vehicle that was
parked in the parking lot. Gilbert later turned himself into AST.
Gilbert was arrested and held at the Glennallen Jail.

Text: On 10-31-08 at approximately 0129 hours AST Kodiak was notified
by USCG Military Police of two vehicles that lost control on the ice and
ended up in the ditch on Rezanof Drive. AST responded to the scene.
Investigation revealed that the two vehicles did not collide and were
otherwise not involved with one another as it relates to the incident.
One of the drivers was identified as 57 year old Arcenio Macalintal of
Kodiak. He was driving a 1997 Mazda pickup when he lost control on the
ice, crossed the on-coming lane, and ended up leaving the traveled
portion of the road way. The vehicle came to a stop when it collided
with a large tree. Macalintal, the sole occupant, was wearing his
safety belt and sustained a minor injury to his left temple. The
vehicle sustained major damage and appears disabled.

Text: On 10-31-08 at approximately 0129 hours AST Kodiak was notified

ditch. Valdez, the sole occupant, was wearing his safety belt and was
uninjured. The vehicle sustained minor cosmetic damage.

Text: On 10/30/08 at 1230 hours, the VPSO of New Stuyahok received a
report from 51 year old Tatiana Gust that 18 year old John Hanson Jr. of
New Stuyahok had just assaulted his 16 year old girlfriend near the New
Stuyahok High School. Investigation revealed that Hanson physically
assaulted the female by causing her pain and injury. Hanson was
arrested on 10/31/08 and transported to the Dillingham correctional
facility. Investigation continues.

Text: On 10-31-08, at approximately 0140 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
McGrath responded to a REDDI report. Troopers contacted a silver Polaris
snow machine traveling east on Chinana Ave. in McGrath. The driver was
identified as Daniel Mundy age 28 of McGrath. Investigation revealed
Mundy was intoxicated and had operated a motor vehicle. Mundy was
arrested and is being held in McGrath pending arraignment.

Text: On 10-30-08, at approximately 1830 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
McGrath received a report of a theft. The Alaska Commercial Store in
McGrath reported miscellaneous construction materials stolen from their
warehouse. An estimated $500 in materials has been stolen within the
last week. AST investigation continues.

Text: On 10-31-08, at approximately 0115 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
McGrath received a complaint of under age drinking at the Teen Center.
Troopers responded and contacted Quinn Lane age 19 of McGrath, Thomas
Keesling age 19 of McGrath and two juveniles both from McGrath.
Investigation revealed all the individuals had consumed alcohol. All
four individuals were issued summons for Minor Consuming Alcohol and
released at the scene.

Text: On 10-31-08, at 0927 hours, AST Dillingham received a report of a
domestic assault that had occurred in the village of Manokotak sometime
during the evening of 10-30-08. The victim had found refuge with a
friend. She was safe and did not need medical attention. Do to the
dense fog in the area, AST was unable to immediately respond, but
investigation will continue at the earliest possible opportunity.

Text: On 10/31/08 the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an
assault in the village of Shageluk. Investigation showed that Mathew
Arrow, age 19, of Shageluk. assaulted a female at 10/30/08 at
approximately 2200 hours. Mathew fled prior to trooper arrival and was
not found. The female was flown to Bethel for treatment. Alcohol was
involved.

Text: On 10-31-08 at approximately 0715 hours, Troopers attempted to
contact James BRIGHT, 22 of Healy, at a residence he claimed to occupy
with records maintained by Adult Probation. BRIGHT is on felony
probation for a variety of charges. Investigation revealed that BRIGHT
was in possession of two rifles, a small amount of marijuana and
marijuana smoking devices, and he was operating a vehicle that has
improper registration and no proof of insurance. BRIGHT was arrested
for the Probation Violation and the other offenses listed above. BRIGHT
was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center. Investigation
complete.

Text: On 10/30/08, at approximately 1910 hours, Alaska State Troopers
stopped a Polaris ATV for riding on the pedestrian path near mile 4.0 of
the Seward Highway. The operator of the ATV was identified as John C.
Hansen III, age 30 of Seward, by his AKID. Investigation revealed
Hansen had consumed alcohol and was impaired. A records check revealed
Hansen had prior DUI convictions, making this a felony. Hansen was
placed under arrest, transported to the Seward City Jail, and remanded
without bail.

Text: On 10/31/08, at approximately 0025 hours, Alaska State Troopers
were notified by University of Alaska Fire Department that a building
occupied by University Redi-Mix on Phillip's Field Road was on fire.
Troopers responded to the scene to investigate, and determined the value
of the damaged property to exceed $200,000. The cause of the fire has
not yet been determined and investigation is ongoing. Anyone with
information on the fire is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers at
451-5100.

Text: On 10-28-08, at approximately 1515 hours, Judicial Services
arrested Fabian Quepons, age 22, of Anchorage on an outstanding warrant
charging him with failure to appear. This warrant stemmed from an
original charge of Assault II. Quepons was lodged at the Anchorage
Correctional Complex in lieu of $10,000 cash/corporate plus a court
approved third party custodian.
