Here's Your List Of Alaskans In College Hockey

Comments (0) |

I like to kid myself and think I’m remotely on top of things – feel free to insert your joke here -- but digging around the series of tubes at home the other day looking for college hockey players from Alaska furnished a startling discovery.

Who knew the number of men’s and women’s college hockey programs in the U.S. totaled 220?

Trust me, it is so. I’ve got the tired eyeballs to prove it from scanning all of those rosters. (And I’m sure it is merely a coincidence a reminder from my eye guy that I'm due a checkup arrived in the mail today).

In any event, there are 64 men and women from Alaska playing U.S. college hockey.

The breakdown: 42 men, 22 women.

More breakdown: 23 men in Division I, 19 men in Division III, 12 women in Division I and 10 women in Division III.

One last breakdown for both Divisions combined (seriously, this is the last breakdown): 24 men and 8 women from Anchorage; 5 men and 9 women from Fairbanks; 5 men from Eagle River; 2 men and 2 women from Wasilla; 1 man and 1 woman from Palmer; 1 man and 1 woman from Sterling; 1 woman from Soldotna; 1 man from Willow; 1 man from Homer; 1 man from Kenny Lake; and 1 woman from Delta Junction. (Man, I hope that adds up to 64).

At least those are the counts I came up with by searching through rosters on www.collegehockeystats.net and www.uscho.com, though there were a few schools with rosters that looked a little thin in numbers. Anyhow, if you think someone is missing from the list, give a holler to dwoody@adn.com and we’ll update it.

Without further rambling, here’s the list by Division (I or III), gender, conference, team, year, position and hometown:
