I used to enjoy walks in the woods at night. That was before I saw TBA Theatre's Production of "Legend of the Wolfman," by Wayne Mitchell at Grant Hall. If you haven't seen it: GO! The wolfman is real, he's one of us. The play is poetic and down to earth. We know these characters. We know what they fear. It's good vs. evil, love vs hate, the brave heart vs tooth and nail and an ugly ancient curse.

"Wolfman" is first-rate. It doesn't rely on the creepy fantastical elements of monster legend to hook us. It wraps us in suspense. When the Wolfman appears, he slips swiftly and silently on stage, predatory, dangerous. Actor Brian Belcher has studied the Art of the Wolf. He's upon us and we're had.

I had two dates: my 7 and 10 yr-old nephews. From the 7 yr-old: "I really liked the dead girl. She was a great actress. She didn't even breathe. I liked the smoke. And I really liked the wolfman."

(Note: "The Legend of the Wolfman" will be presented at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at APU's Grant Hall. Tickets are $5-$7.) A review of the show by Dawnell Smith can be read at adn.com/play.
