Troopers broke up a 31-plant marijuana growing operation in Wasilla after showing up at an apartment to investigate a report of "suspicious circumstances." See the dispatch below.

Text: On 10-28-08, at 0015 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Lorne
W. Hardee, age 43, of Wasilla near the intersection of Bogard Road and
Copper Creek Road in Wasilla, while performing a traffic stop on a
vehicle for a moving violation. Investigation revealed that Hardee was
operating the vehicle while his license was suspended for point's
violations. Hardee was issued a summons to appear in court for Driving
While License Suspended. Hardee was also issued a citation for no proof
of insurance.

Text: On 10-28-08, at approximately 0253 hours, Alaska State Troopers,
along with Wasilla PD responded to a residence on E. Spruce Road, in Wasilla, to
the report of suspicious circumstances. Investigation revealed the
resident's of the upstairs apartment, Frederick J. Parsons, age 42 of
Wasilla, and Ann Florence Schachle age 54 of Wasilla, had a thirty one
plant marijuana grow in the residence. Mat Su Narcotics responded
and seized the plants and equipment. Parsons is being charged with 3
counts MICS 4th, Schachle is being charged with MICS 4th for
maintaining the dwelling.

Text: On 10/28/2008, at approximately 0725 hours, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of a student in possession of Marijuana at Houston
High School. Investigation revealed that a 16 yoa Houston High School
student was on school grounds while in possession of marijuana. The
Student was released at the scene. Charges will be forwarded to the
Juvenile Justice Office.

Text: At about 1100 hours, 10-28-08, William D. Mook, 44 years of age,
from Palmer was contacted by the Judicial Services Warrant Section,
Palmer for a Fugitive from Justice Warrant Service at his residence in
Palmer. The warrant was for Violation of Conditions of Probation on the
original charge of Grand Theft 2nd Degree. He was lodged at Mat Su
Pre-Trial Facility in lieu of No Bail.

Type: Assault - IV DV
Text: On 10/27/08 at approximately 2230 hours, Alaska State Troopers
from Kotzebue were on patrol in the village of Noorvik when they
overheard a call on the VHF radio requesting police assistance at a
local residence. Troopers responded to the residence and discovered
that Sean Hoffman, age 35 of Noorvik, had assaulted a family member
during an argument. Hoffman was placed under arrest for Assault in the
Fourth Degree-DV. The victim was treated for her injuries by the
Noorvik Community Health Aid and later released. Hoffman was
transported to the Kotzebue Regional Jail Facility and remanded without
bail. Alcohol was a factor in the incident.

Text: On 10/27/08, at 2030 hours, State Troopers in Kotzebue received a
report of two hunters who were overdue from a hunting trip. State
Troopers learned that David Matthews Jr., 40 yoa, of Barrow and his 10
year old son had gone hunting at 1400 hours during which time they
separated from their hunting party and had not returned. State Troopers
contacted the Kotzebue Search and Rescue team and authorized a hasty
team to search the portage trail which is located just outside of
Kotzebue. By 0700 hours on 10/28/08, the father and son were still
missing, but the search team which grew to more than 10 people, had
located tracks near the portage trail. As aircraft was preparing to
depart Kotzebue at 0930 hours to conduct an aerial search of the area,
State Troopers were informed that David Matthews Jr. and his son had
been located as they were walking towards Kotzebue. Both Matthews and
his son were uninjured and were transported to Kotzebue by Search and
Rescue members. State Troopers would like to thank the Kotzebue Search
and Rescue team in addition to volunteers from the city of Kotzebue for
their immediate response and search efforts. State Troopers would like
to remind travelers to file a travel plan with family members and
friends before departing and to dress appropriate for the winter
weather.

Koktelash, age 20 of Nondalton for two outstanding warrants. Koktelash

Type: Motor vehicle collision-damage
Text: On 10-27-2008 at 2017 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a
single motor vehicle collision at a Lakeview Terrance residence. Nikola
Francisco Navarro, age 16 of Fairbanks lost control of his 2004
Chevrolet pickup truck on an icy roadway, and collided into the side of
a trailer. Stephen Payton, age 16 of Fairbanks, was a passenger of
Navarro. Navarro and Payton utilized their seatbelts and no injuries
were reported. Damage to Navarro's pickup truck is estimated over $5000
dollars. Navarro was cited for negligent driving, driving in violation
of a provisional operator's license and expired insurance.

Text: On 10/27/08 at approximately 1439 hours, AST conducted a traffic
stop at mile post 249 of the Parks Hwy on a black 1984 GMC pick up truck
for expired license plate. The license plate had been expired since
October of 2006. AST identified the driver as Edward Morton Waugaman,
47 of Healy, who was operating the vehicle without insurance. Waugaman
was citied for expired license late and not having a driver's license in
possession at the time of the stop. Waugaman was also issued a USC to
appear in court for No Insurance. The vehicle was impounded and
Waugaman was released at the scene.

Type: Criminal Mischief 3rd degree
Text: On 10-27-08 at approximately 1345 hours, AST received a report
from Scott Newman, of Delta Junction who reported all of the windows had
been broken out of a vehicle parked at Polaris Junction overnight.
Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $2500.00. AST is reviewing a
surveillance system at the business to assist with the investigation.

Type: Hunting Violation
Text: On 10-25-08, Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted 33 year old Eric
Shafford and his son from Homer near mile 3.5 of Skilak Loop Road.
Investigation revealed Shafford's grade school aged son, under
Shafford's supervision, was hunting small game with a .22 rifle in an
area closed to hunting with firearms. Shafford was issued a summons for
hunting in a restricted area. Bail will be determined by the Kenai
court.

Type: Bear Mauling
Text: On 10/28/08 at 1211 hours Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Kodiak
received a report from Andrew Air Service that Matthew T. Sutton age 31
of Great Falls, MT. was attacked by bears. Investigation determined
Sutton was attacked by a sow with two cubs on Sunday, 10/26/2008 in
Viekoda Bay near the Rolling Point cabin. Sutton and his hunting partner
were able to contact a passing plane via VHF radio on 10/28/2008 to
advise them of the situation. USCG responded and medivaced Sutton to
Providence Kodiak island medical for treatment. ADF&G and USFW were
briefed on the situation, Sutton's injuries do not appear to be life
threatening.

Text: On 10/27/08 Nome ABADE acted on a tip and contacted Frank M.
Kavairlook, Jr., age 28, of Koyuk, AK, at a local air carrier. Incident
to contact, 3-750ml bottles of alcohol were seized from his luggage.

Type: Death Investigation
Text: On October 27, 2008 at approximately 11:14 at night, Trooper
dispatch in Soldotna received word of an issue at Spring Creek
Correctional Center. Troopers Responded. John Carlin, age 51 of
Anchorage, was pronounced deceased at Seward Providence Hospital. Foul
play is suspected in the death. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is
conducting the investigation.
