This is a new blog dedicated to the general topic of crime and crime prevention in Alaska. We are starting by posting the Alaska State Troopers' daily logs, our own crime-related stories and other relevant items as we come across them. The Daily News encourages community engagement and discussion of issues of crime and criminal justice. Comments are not edited and will be posted immediately. We know that stories about crime often provoke strong reactions, but we insist that you keep your comments on point, use good taste and show courtesy toward other writers. Case number: 08-86389

Type: Assault III DV, Interfering With the Report of a Crime Involving
Domestic Violence

Text: On 10/15/2008 at approximately 0100 hours, Alaska State Troopers
in Ketchikan received a 911 call from a residence on North Point Higgins
Road in Ketchikan. The caller had yelled for help and was disconnected.
Investigation revealed 29 year old Simon G. McCamy of Ketchikan had
committed the crime of Assault III to a family member. Subsequent
investigation revealed McCamy had interfered with the victim's report of
the assault to AST. McCamy was arrested without further incident and
remanded at the Ketchikan Correctional Center where he will be held
without bail until arraignments.

Case number: 08-86263
Type: DVPO Violation
Text: On 10/14/2008, at approximately 1800 hours, Alaska State Troopers
contacted Raymond Rossiter, age 59, of Big Lake, for a DVPO
investigation. Rossiter was contacted at a business on Bogard Road.
Investigation revealed that Rossiter had violated a DVPO that was served
on him. Rossiter was arrested and remanded into the Mat Su Pretrial

Location: Ouzinkie

Case number: 08-00886367

Type: Assault IV DV, Criminal Trespass First Degree

Text: On 10-14-08 at approximately 1936 hrs, Alaska State Troopers
received a report of a domestic disturbance at a Spruce Street
residence. The Ouzinkie VPSO was dispatched to the location.
Investigation revealed that a 29 year old female from Ouzinkie,
assaulted her former girlfriend by placing her in fear of imminent
physical harm and remaining in the dwelling after being told to leave.
The VPSO placed Kelly under arrest and she was transported to Kodiak
City Jail for arraignment.

Text: On 10/14/08 at approximately 2230 hours, AST received a report of
the expected home death of Anna Emily Waska, 76YOA of Emmonak. Expected
home death paperwork was on file, no foul play suspected.

Type: Assault IV on a TPO

Text: On 10-14-08, at about 2220 hours, Yako Petluska 33 yoa of the
village of Napaskiak was arrested for assaulting a Tribal Police Officer
(TPO). Petluska was transported to Bethel and lodged at YKCC. Alcohol
was involved.

Type: Probation Violation

Text: On 10/15/08, Unalakleet AST received a report from VPSO
Huntington in Shishmaref that he had arrested Andrew Ningealook, 30 yoa
of Shishmaref, for a probation violation. Ningealook had consumed and
possessed alcohol in violation of his probation. Ningealook was
transported to Nome for arraignment.

Type: Probation Violation

Text: On 10/8/08, the Shaktoolik VPSO received a report of an
intoxicated person. She made contact with Clarence Katchatag Jr., age
50 of Shaktoolik, who was intoxicated. It was determined Katchatag was
on probation and on 10/9/08, he was taken into custody and transported
to Nome for arraignment.

Type: Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor

Text: On Wednesday, October 15, 2008, the Alaska State Troopers in St.
Mary's issued a court summons to Anthony Wasky, 22yoa of Pitkas Point
after completing the investigation into a September 27, 2008 incident
where Wasky furnished alcoholic beverages to two minors.

Type: Driving While License Suspended
Text: On 10/13/08 at 2348 hours, Soldotna AST stopped a red 1987 Jeep
Cherokee for driving without headlights. Subsequent investigation
resulted in the arrest of James Cook, age 20 of Sterling, for driving
while his license is suspended. Cook was transported to Wildwood
Pretrial Facility where he was held in lieu of $500 bail.

Type: Assault IV (DV)

Text: On 10-15-08, at approximately 0253 hours, Larry Evan Bragaw (age
53 of Sterling) was arrested at his residence in Sterling for Assault IV
(DV) following an assault investigation. The victim did not require
medical treatment. Bragaw was remanded at Wildwood Pretrial Facility
without bail.

Location: Cooper Landing

Type: DWLR

Text: On 10/13/08 at approximately 1410 hours, a Cooper Landing based
State Trooper stopped a vehicle on Snug Harbor Road for expired
registration. The driver Joshwa Milette, 27 yoa of Kenai, was contacted
and a records check revealed Milette's Operator's License was revoked.
Milette was issued a summons to appear in the Seward Court at a later
date. Milette was also issued citations for Expired Registration and no
Proof of Insurance.

Location: Sterling

Type: MVC-Moose

Text: On 10/9/08 at 0840 hours, A Cooper Landing based State Trooper
responded to 77.6 mile of the Sterling Hwy following a report of a motor
vehicle collision with a moose. Investigation revealed Michael Morris,
58 yoa of Sterling, was traveling southbound on the Sterling Hwy at mile
76.5 in a First Student school bus when a moose entered the roadway and
collided with the front right door of the bus. The bus had three
students on board, and no injuries were reported. The bus was driven
from the scene.

AK Wildlife Troopers

Location: Delta Junction
Case Number: 08-86221
Type: Take Bull Moose C/S, Falsify Permit Hunt Report
Text: On 10/14/08 Tok AWT was contacted by Lloyd Summers, 57 yoa of
Delta, who reported he had mistakenly shot a bull moose while taking
part in the DM799 antlerless moose hunt near Delta Junction.
Investigation revealed that summers had taken a young bull moose on
10/12/08 and had reported to ADF&G he had taken a cow moose on his
harvest report, then later decided to turn himself in to AWT for the
violation. Summers was issued citations for taking a bull moose during
an antlerless moose season and for falsifying his permit hunt report.
The moose was seized and donated to a local charity. Arraignment is set
for Oct. 30th in Delta court.

Location: Ketchikan
Case number: 08-85509
Type: MICS IV
Text: On 10-11-08, an ABADE Investigator contacted Eric Trout, age 33,
of Ketchikan while assisting AST patrol on a traffic stop in Saxman.
Incident to the contact, approximately a quarter pound of marijuana was
seized that has an estimated street value of $2750.00. Charges of
Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV will be forwarded to the
District Attorney's office.

Anyone with information concerning illegal drug activity in the
Ketchikan region is encouraged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at
(907) 228-4020. You can remain anonymous and rewards are offered.
