Just a tasteJust a taste

The Anchorage nightlife scene is gearing up with some sweet soirees in the coming weeks to celebrate the season by raising money and glasses at the same time. Here's a quick rundown:

First – Don't forget about Oktoberfest this weekend in Girdwood at the Alyeska Resort. The merrymaking runs 6 p.m. to midnight Friday and 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday. Tickets are $10 for adults (there will be a kid's tent for the little ones), and can be purchased by calling 754-2275. Whet your appetite for not only brews but brautwurst, weisswurst, spatzle and a whole passle of Bavarian treats galore. For more information, visit www.alyeskaresort.com.

Second – Attend A Night of Barefoot Wine, a wine tasting and auction hosted by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to benefit cancer research. The event is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Platinum Jaxx (907 W. Sixth Ave.). Tickets are $10-$15 and can be purchased at Platinum Jaxx or by calling 278-5299 or 222-7726.

Third – Support local public media and attend the Harvest of Wines fundraiser for APRN, KSKA and KAKM featuring fine wine tastings, appetizers and live and silent auctions. The event begins 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the BP Atrium (900 E. Benson Blvd.). Tickets are $75-$85 and can be purchased at the Brown Jug Warehouse (4140 Old Seward Highway), by phone (550-8400) or online at harvest.alaskpublic.org.

And finally – The Alaska State Fair is sponsoring a Mighty Matanuska Brewfest and Auction (a fundraiser for the fair's Creation Station) at Raven Hall (Alaska State Fairgrounds in Palmer). The event will feature three sessions: 6-10 p.m. Oct. 17 and 1-5 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. Oct. 18. Attendees can enjoy local beer, food and entertainment with live and silent auctions as well. Tickets for the event are $15-$20 for each session, which includes 20 tickets redeemable for three-ounce samples of beer. Purchase tickets at the Glacier Brewhouse in Anchorage (274-2739), Schwabenhof's in Wasilla (1-907-357-2739) or Vagabond Blues in Palmer (1-907-745-2233).
