About Palin's speech . . .

One thing our editorial about Palin's speech doesn't mention - how she looked when she finished it. I was surprised. Rather than showing relief, and basking in the adulation of the crowd, she looked grim and tense right afterward. I wondered if she felt uncomfortable giving such a harsh speech with so many digs at the opposition (she is after all, pitching herself as a different kind of candidate, trying to change the poisoned political culture of the capital), or maybe she was just uptight, worrying a bit about how well she had done. Soon enough she was smiling, but her body language right after made me wonder what she was really thinking.

About Palin's speech . . .

One thing about this campaign that hasn't been mentioned since Governor Palin was chosen by John McCain. During the gubernatorial primary it didn't matter that her adversaries had better financed campaigns or were seasoned pols. The same thing is happening now.

She said she was a bible believing, devout christian.

So I expected her speech to be a cross between Queen Esther and King David and the Woman mentioned in Luke. Can anyone imagine the Sweet Lord Jesus entering Jerusalem with a pit bull or telling His Followers to feed, clothe, give water and visit the least in His Kingdom only to lift them up for public ridicule afterwards, telling them that their community service was absolutely worthless?

I later blogged about how I felt like I was watching Princess Leah and Hans McSolo run off with Lord Darth Vadar. Afterwards, I was called (their words) a God-Hater, a Palin-Hater and Communist who hates republicans, church-going, bible-believing, Jesus-loving people of this Great State and country.

For the record, I was born and raised here. My children are republicans. My father served in the Territorial Guard with Muktuk Marston and the Eskimo Scout Battalion. So did my two cousins who also served twice in Viet Nam. My brother served in the Army and all were honorably discharged. My family put in thousands of volunteer hours with the USO and the YMCA. I vote. I pay property taxes. I received citations and awards for volunteer work. My late husband, a vet, completed an analysis of EVERY piece of state and national legislation for years. We prided ourselves on the first to be wearing "Votes Count" buttons during every election cycle. I was one of those thirteen questioned ballots when Mark Begich was elected Mayor and I brought two other voters with me. I voted against corruption in the primaries.

One minute I was a do-gooder, votin' widow on social security and then, Poof! I was the AntiChrist. What a position to be relegated to. My friends will probably be too ashamed to be seen with me in pubic.

Well, I best gather my evil minions, those demon-possessed reporters at ADN, and go wreak havoc somewhere.

Tense? Harsh speech?

I'll have to go watch it again (watched it twice already). I think she carried with torch with aplomb. I'm sure she got a kick out of a few shots across the bow of the USS O'Bama . And there were a few needless curtsies to "R" positions re: security, defense, support of military blah blah blah. But Sarah's real victory, IMHO, is her success at reaching across party lines. Across class lines. Across economic lines to connect with the people who grow our food, fight our wars and make America work.

Absolutely fantastic

Worried about doing too well? Boy.. I sure missed that part..

For those who want to see it again a link to the whole 44 min video on YouTube is here http://is.gd/2cOL

I think 'doing things well' may be a theme on the national scene for awhile. And that's a good thing IMHO.
