Bank robberies net stiff sentence

A convicted bank robber has been sentenced in federal court to more than 43 years in prison for his crimes, the U.S. attorney said Wednesday.

Bernard Miguel Kalilikane, 39, was sentenced to 520 months confinement for his convictions on charges of armed credit union robbery, armed bank robbery, two counts of using a semi-automatic pistol during and in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm or ammunition, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Kalilikane robbed an Alaska USA Federal Credit Union in December 2007, escaping with $4,350 after brandishing a Bersa .380 semi-automatic pistol. Days later, he robbed a Northrim Bank on Huffman Boulevard, this time making off with $2,920, prosecutors said.

“Get-away” driver Cynthia Lee Taranto, previously pleaded guilty to armed credit union robbery and got 20 months in prison, prosecutors said.
