Photo by Fran DurnerFall Color Tour There are many beautiful landscapes with fantastic fall colors around Anchorage, and TREErific would like to assemble a tour that showcases some of them. We are looking for suggested tour stops and a few interested volunteers to form a committee to help organize and plan this event, if you are interested please send an email to treerificanchorage@yahoo.com or stephen.nickel@alaska.gov.

September 2, Tuesday, 6:30pm. Meeting of the North Root Big Lake Gardeners. HANDS-ON SEED COLLECTING At the Lockhart & Erskine Garden in Big Lake. We will scout through the garden for ripe seeds to harvest. We will collect, and talk about storage methods. Call Linda Lockhart for more info, 892-8119.
September 3, Wednesday, 6pm. Little Campbell Creek.You are invited to join Anchorage Waterways Council and TREErific to help plant five white spruce trees, water the plants and pull weeds around the fish alcove. Last year Anchorage Waterways Council and TREErific worked together to plant trees and shrubs around the fish alcove project at Little Campbell Creek. The Little Campbell Creek restoration project pulled many groups and volunteers together to become what it is today. This fall, Anchorage Audubon Society will join the list of contributing organizations by donating few more trees to add to the existing plantings around the alcove. Please send an email to stephen.nickel@alaska.gov if you plan to attend. Please come prepared to have fun and dress for the weather. How to get there. The site is at 68th and Meadow. Turn off Brayton, the frontage road east of the Seward Highway (one way, north), onto 68th just north of the Kaladi Brothers Coffee Shop, south of Dowling. Go one block and the site is on the left at Meadow.

September 11, Thursday, 10am. Wildflower Garden Club Workshop. Making Cards with Pressed Plants. Come learn with instructor Verrna Pratt how to make your own "one of a kind" cards with special pressed flowers and leaves you have collected. Bring your pressed flowers, Elmer‛s glue, tacky glue, and scissors to the Central Lutheran Church (15th and Cordova Street.) They will provide card stock. Contact Liz Rockwell, 277-7150.

Look for the number inside the chasing arrow sign on the bottom of the pot. Fran Durner/ADNSeptember 20, Saturday. Alaskans for Litter Prevention and Recycling (ALPAR) and the Alaska Botanical Garden are holding a garden plant pot recycling event at the ABG. The event will run from 10 am to 5 pm at the ABG off Tudor Rd. Only pots that are numbered 2, 5 and 7 will be taken. (Look for the chasing arrow symbol with the number on the bottom of the pot.) Non-rigid cell packs and #6 pots are not recycleable and will not be accepted. Shake out dirt or rinse, remove metal hangars and stack same size pots to make packing easier. September 23, 24, 25, 26, Tuesday - Friday, 10a.m.-1p.m. Floral Design Workshop. Held at the Anchorage branch of the UAF Cooperative Extension Service near the corner of Lake Otis and E. Northern Lights Blvd. Fee: $110.00 (includes all flowers, greens, and supplies used in class) Students will complete a fresh floral arrangement in each class that they will take home and enjoy. Come and learn about fruit trees and rootstock varieties that are proven to be successful in the Anchorage bowl from Mel Monson, Landscaper and Horticulturalist at UAA in the grounds department. We will learn from his experiences growing pears, pie cherries, apples, kiwis and sweet cherries. He will bring a few samples for us to try too.
The Anchorage Senior Center is located at 1300 E 19th Ave Anchorage, AK 99501
Direction: From 15th Ave go south on Karluk, left on 17th, and right on Karluk again and then left on 19th Ave to the Senior Center.
