Alaska Politics Blog

This is the place to talk about Alaska politics -- state, local, national. Public life in the Last Frontier has probably never been more interesting than right now -- the governor as candidate for vice president, the broad and still-evolving corruption investigation, a big election, powerful members of Congress under scrutiny, and the usual hardball Alaska politics. Come here for news, tidbits and information, and join the discussion. Keep your comments civil and on point. Avoid personal attacks. Do not use profanity. Palin confirms Nizich as top aide

From Wesley Loy in Anchorage –

Gov. Sarah Palin today removed the "acting" from chief of staff Mike Nizich's title.

Nizich has been doing the job Mike Tibbles vacated in May. Tibbles is now campaign manager for U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens.

Here's the governor's press release on Nizich:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 27, 2008

Governor Palin Names Mike Nizich Chief of Staff

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today named Mike Nizich Chief of Staff. Nizich, who started his state service under former Governor Jay Hammond, has most recently served as acting Chief of Staff since May.

“I could not be more pleased that Mr. Nizich has decided to continue working with the team and serve the state of Alaska in this capacity,” Governor Palin said. “Mr. Nizich is a well-respected, proven leader with decades of institutional knowledge and a profound understanding of the public policy process.”

Nizich, 56, came to Juneau in 1971 with the U.S. Coast Guard. He started working for the state of Alaska in 1976 in the Office of the Governor. Nizich served as Director of Administrative Services under Governor Bill Sheffield, a position he held through the Knowles administration. Governor Frank Murkowski appointed him Deputy Chief of Staff and Nizich continued in that position in the Palin administration.

“It has been a privilege and a pleasure to be a part of state government,” Nizich said. “I look forward to meeting the challenges ahead in my new position.”

Nizich will continue to be based in the Governor’s Juneau office.

Nizich deserves better

Why would a good guy with a good reputation for 20 years accept a job like this on a sinking ship? What a sad way to end an otherwise stellar career in public service.

Binkley and Tibbles

This is a dead giveaway. Tibbles ran John Binkley's campaign for governor in 06. Binkley loses in a big way to Palin. Palin puts Tibbles in as chief of staff. Palin puts Binkley back on RR Board. Binkley gets $$$$$ favors from Ted Stevens over many years. Tibbles quits (or gets squeezed out) Palin. Binkley works back room deal with Reuderich as Stevens replacement. Tibbles comes on as Steven's campaign manager. Binkley comes out publicly to support Stevens.

So.......is Ted Stevens really not seeing the lifting taking place, or is he part of it????? Binkley is no friend to Republicans. Binkley is only about Binkley. Period. Tibbles knows this and will gladly work for Stevens, but is really working for Binkley.

There are ways to stop an imposter.

Not only is there no one in politics

in this State smart enough to cook up a conspiracy like that, there's sure as Hell no way it could be kept a secret.

  August 28, 2008 - 2:11pm | Gus_Davis

No shortage of "cooks"

Cooking things up all the time, Whole Departments devoted to that it seems. As well as Ethicaly challenged people and incestuos political relationships.

But yeah, mostly dumb-down white collar criminals. BTW have you talked with any Risk Management goons lately?

  August 28, 2008 - 12:06am | bacup

Sounds like a

conspiracy. Maybe a little too much for the average reader. But one question does need answering. Why did Binkley move from Fairbanks to Anchorage last year? Is he getting set up for Stevens seat?

Always remember, bacup:

The complete lack of evidence is the surest sign that the conspiracy is working.

Back Engineering uncovers conspiracies.

LilysDaddy:

Well-stated. In this case, the Engineer is leaving a huge footprint behind. Silence is deadly. By the way, didn't Binkley get into a flap during the 2006 gov's debate about his (lack of) Engineering courses, even though he pronounced in his campaign brochures that he was an Engineering major in college. His ONLY evidence of any college were some transcripts showing summer courses in golf and small engine repair. Wonder if Mike Tibbles encouraged Binkley to release his college transcripts? Smart move!

Franky Doodle.
