Two motorists who pointed a BB gun at another driver were booked at the Fairbanks Correctional Center after troopers discovered they were foreign nationals in violation of their work vistas. See the dispatch out of Cantwell below.

Text: On 8-26-08, at 1003, Juneau AST received a report of an unexpected
death on board the M/V NORWEGIAN PEARL while it was traveling between
Seattle and Juneau. Investigation found that Cheryl Van Steenwyk, age 51
of Singapore passed away in her suite during the evening of the 25th. No
foul play is suspected.

Text: On 8-25-2008 at approximately 2231 hours, AST conducted a traffic
stop on a vehicle driven by, 26 year old William Rosario, of Anchorage
at approximately 55 mile of the Glenn Hwy for a moving violation.
Subsequent investigation revealed that Rosario had a small amount of
marijuana on his person. Rosario was issued a summons for MICS VI and
released. AST also contacted the passenger, 32 year old Carlos Crespo,
of Anchorage, in the vehicle. Crespo was found to be under the influence
of alcohol and having a pistol by him in the vehicle. Crespo was issued
a summons for MIW IV and released.

Text: On 8-25-08, at approximately 2317 hours, the Fairbanks DUI
Enforcement Troopers stopped a blue 1988 GMC van near mile 52 of the
Parks Hwy. in Houston. for an equipment violation. Wilfred Francis
Benzing, age 60 of Willow, was identified as the driver. Investigation
revealed Benzing was driving the vehicle without a valid operator's
license. Benzing was issued a summons for NVOL and released on scene.

Text: On 8/25/2008 at approximately 2107 hours, the Fairbanks DUI
Enforcement Troopers stopped a yellow Honda four wheeler on Nelson
Avenue in Wasilla for driving in the roadway. The driver was identified
as Shiina Akpik, age 21 of Wasilla. Her passenger was Salomi Akpik, age
19 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Shiina had been driving the four
wheeler while impaired by alcohol. She was arrested for DUI. Further
investigation revealed Salomi had been consuming alcohol as well.
Shiina was remanded at Mat-Su Pretrial Facility for DUI. Bail was set
at $250. Salomi was issued a summons to appear in court for Minor
Consuming Alcohol.

Text: On 08/26/2008 at approximately 0156 hours the AST Fairbanks DUI
Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of the Parks
Hwy. and Willow St. in Wasilla for an equipment violation. The driver
of the vehicle was identified as Ashley I. Hubbs, age 17, of Wasilla.
Hubbs was found to be operating the vehicle with an instructional permit
only and no licensed driver in the vehicle. Hubbs was issued a summons
to appear in the Palmer Court for Driving in Violation of her
Instructional Permit.

DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of the
Parks Hwy. and Rainbow St. outside Wasilla for erratic driving. The
driver of the vehicle was identified as Tracy L. Hyder, age 42, of
Wasilla. Hyder was found to be operating the vehicle while under the
influence of alcohol. Hyder was arrested and remanded to the Mat-Su
Pretrial facility on the charge of DUI and held on a $500.00 bail.

age 37 , of Wasilla, after the vehicle he was operating was stopped for

operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Hugh was issued a
summons to appear in court at a later date. Hubbard was also issued
citations for fail to show proof of insurance and expired registration.

age 77, of Houston, after the vehicle she was driving was stopped for an
equipment violation. Investigation revealed that Baker was operating a
motor vehicle without a valid driver's license. Baker was aware that she
did not have a license. Baker was issued a summons to appear at a later
date in court and released. Her vehicle was released to a licensed
driver.

Type: DUI / Leaving the Scene of an Accident / MVC-D
Text: On 8-25-2008 at approximately 1423 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on the Palmer-Wasilla
Hwy at Luke Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Richard Hodge
age 68 of Wasilla was traveling east in his 2003 Winnebago on the
Palmer-Wasilla Hwy and was waiting to turn left on to Luke Road. Carie
Curran age 34 of Palmer was driving her 2005 Ford Taurus east on
Palmer-Wasilla Hwy when she rear ended Hodge's vehicle. Curran left the
scene and was contacted by Alaska State Troopers at Trunk Road and
Palmer-Wasilla Hwy. Investigation revealed that Curran was driving
under the influence. She was arrested for DUI and for leaving the scene
of an accident. Curran was transported to Mat-Su Pretrial where she was
held on a bail of $2000.00. Both parties reported were wearing their
seatbelts at the time of the collision and no one was injured. Hodge's
vehicle sustained no damage in the collision. Curran's vehicle
sustained approximately $1000.00 damage to her front bumper.

Text: On 8-25-2008 at approximately 1324 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to report of a two vehicle collision on Palmer-Wasilla Hwy
near Seward Meridian Pkwy in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that
Jennifer Pagel age 32 of Palmer, was driving a 2000 Subaru Forrester
east on the Palmer-Wasilla Hwy at Seward Meridian Pkwy. Tyler Yoder age
18 of Palmer, was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup and attempted to
turn left from the Tesoro Gas Station parking lot on to the
Palmer-Wasilla Hwy. Yoder failed to yield and collided with Pagel's
vehicle causing approximately $2500.00 in damage. Yoder's vehicle
sustained approximately $1500.00 in damage. Both parties reported
wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. Yoder was issued
a citation for failure to yield when entering a roadway from a non
roadway. No injuries were reported.

Type: Shooting Investigation
Text: On 8/25/08 at approximately 2251 hours, State Troopers responded
to a report of a disturbance at the intersection of Palmer Fishhook Road
and Snowgoose Drive, near Palmer. Initial investigation revealed that a
Good Samaritan stopped at the intersection when he witnessed a male and
a female who was carrying a small infant, having an argument. Moments
later another vehicle arrived with four occupants. Three male occupants
exited the vehicle and an altercation ensued. While trying to stop the
altercation the Good Samaritan was assaulted by two males receiving a
minor injury to the face. The Good Samaritan left to flag down another
motorist who had a cell phone to call for help. As the Good Samaritan
returned to the scene, the two males began aggressively approaching him.
The Good Samaritan pulled a handgun and fired one shot hitting one of
the individuals in the leg. The individual was treated and released for
a gunshot wound at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. No other injuries to
any of the persons or the infant involved were reported. No charges
have been filed at this time and all names of the parties involved are
being withheld pending the outcome of the investigation. Any person
with information regarding this case is urged to contact AST at 745-2131

Text: On 8/26/08 at 0041 hrs AST was telephoned by a Fairbanks area
resident reporting the theft of his fully inflated sport boat & small
outboard from the bar's boat landing. The Novurania 8' inflatable &
it's attached 3.5 Tohatsu outboard are valued at $1,500.00. The caller
also informed AST that by happenstance he was now following a white
pickup truck with his property clearly visible in the open bed. The
complainant contacted the suspect vehicle at Illinois St & Phillips
Field Rd., AST patrol arrived a moment afterwards. Michael J. METZGER,
age 22 and Tyler J. BROCK, age 24, both US Army soldiers stationed on
FtWW were arrested for Vehicle Theft I and transported to FCC without
further incident.

Text: On 6/3/08 at approximately 0530 hours, Alaska State Troopers in
Galena received a report of a minor consuming alcohol in Nulato.
Investigation revealed that Kyle Patsy, age 18 of Nulato had consumed
alcohol, Arnold Demoski, age 18 of Nulato consumed alcohol and furnished
alcohol to a person under 21, and Curtis Nickoli, age 24 of Kaltag
furnished alcohol to a person under 21. Kyle Patsy, Arnold Demoski, and
Curtis Nickoli were each issued a summons to appear in the Galena Court.

Text: On 8/23/08 at 1000 hrs. Alaska State Troopers responded to Tanana
to investigate an assault involving domestic violence. Michael J.

after investigation revealed that he threatened a woman with a knife
during an assault during the early morning hours. AST transported Wiehl

Type: MVC- Injury Commercial Vehicle
Text: On 8/19/08 Alaska State Troopers responded to mile 5 Dalton Hwy
for a single vehicle rollover with injuries. The driver was reportedly
trapped in a vehicle. Charles F. Boots, 62 yoa of Fairbanks, was
driving southbound on the Dalton Hwy when he lost control of his
commercial vehicle tractor with a trailer in tow. Boots rolled off the
highway and he was trapped in his tractor until emergency medical
personnel freed him from the wreckage. He was then transported to
Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Boots tractor was
destroyed, and the trailer sustained approximately $5000 damage. AST is
still investigating this crash with the assistance of DOT- Commercial
Vehicle Enforcement. It is unknown if Boots was wearing seat belt.

Assist
Text: On 8/23/08 at approximately 2154 hours, AST received a call from a
motorist on the Parks Hwy at mile post 178. The complainant reported as
he was traveling north on the Parks Hwy a light blue Cadillac passed him
and was pointing some type of long gun in his direction. AST responded
and contacted the vehicle at mile 227 of the Parks Highway. AST
contacted the driver Denis Baciu, 21 of Moldova, and his passenger
Dumitru Popa, 21 of Moldova. Both individuals were currently in the
United States on work visas. Further investigation revealed that a BB
gun was in the back seat and they pointed it out the window in the area
the complainant when they passed. INS was called to confirm that Baciu
and Popa were in the United States legally. An Agent with INS
discovered that Baciu and Popa were both in violation for not having a
passport with them and for not being employed by their original sponsor
while residing in the US on a 4 month work visa. INS requested that
both individuals be transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center where
they could be held until INS could transport them to Anchorage. AST
charged Baciu for No Valid Operator License and Operating a Motor
Vehicle without Liability Insurance. Both individuals were transported
to Fairbanks Correctional Center and are currently being held for INS.
The vehicle that was driven was towed from the scene and impounded.

Type: Assault 4th, Warrant Arrest
Text: On 8/23/08, at 1607 hours, Troopers received a report of an
assault that had just occurred in the village of Chenega Bay. Troopers
from Cooper Landing and Seward flew to the village and investigated the
incident. Based on the investigation Alexander Kompkoff, 46 of Chenega
Bay, was arrested for assaulting his wife. It was also determined that
Kompkoff had an outstanding arrest warrant. The warrant was for failing
to appear at a status hearing on original charges of theft and criminal
mischief. Kompkoff was transported to the Seward Jail where he was
booked with no bail. Alcohol was a contributing factor in this
incident.

rings that were at least 4 3/8 inch in diameter. Trotter was issued a
summons to appear in court. Arraignment is set for 9/23/2008 in the

Text: On 08/18/08 at 1500 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued a

Dungeness Crab onboard a Commercial Fishing Vessel Following 24 hours
after the Dungeness Crab Season Closure. An investigation by Troopers
revealed Jensen possessed 904 pounds of Dungeness Crab onboard his
Fishing Vessel the Fly-By-Night 58 hours after the close of the
Dungeness Crab Fishing Season in Registration Area A. The Dungeness Crab
onboard Jensen's vessel was seized with a value of $2,034.00.

Marvin A. Kadake, age 75, of Kake regarding his personal use crab pots.
Investigation revealed that Kadake used other than 30 count cotton
twine as a bio-escape mechanism on a personal use crab pot. Kadake was
issued a citation and an arraignment date set for 9/18/2008 in the Kake
District Court.

Type: DLP Muskox
Text: On 8-24-08 at approximately 1406 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers
in Kotzebue received a report from Cyrus Harris age 51 of Kotzebue that
a Bull Muskox attacked his dog team as they were on their chains.
Harris was able to get the Muskox out of his dog lot before the Muskox
turned on him. Harris then shot the Muskox in self defense. The Muskox
was butchered and all the meat was given to the Kotzebue senor center.
Harris reported his dogs had sustain minor injures but were ok.

Investigation revealed Meinhold had failed to submit his daily logbook
pages as required by regulation. Meinhold was issued a citation, with
bail set at $210.

Text: On Sunday August 24, 2008 Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted
Darrell Evans, age 49 from Clam Gulch on a four-wheeler trail near mile
post 118 of the Sterling Highway. Investigation revealed Evans had
shot a sub-legal moose and after realizing the moose was illegal, he
attempt to salvage the meat for his personal use. The charge of
Unlawfully Taking a Sub-Legal Moose has been forwarded to the Kenai
District Attorneys Office for Prosecution.
