Alaska Politics Blog

This is the place to talk about Alaska politics -- state, local, national. Public life in the Last Frontier has probably never been more interesting than right now -- the governor as candidate for vice president, the broad and still-evolving corruption investigation, a big election, powerful members of Congress under scrutiny, and the usual hardball Alaska politics. Come here for news, tidbits and information, and join the discussion. Keep your comments civil and on point. Avoid personal attacks. Do not use profanity. Meet Frank Vondersaar

From David Hulen in Anchorage –

We never got to this with everything else going on last week, but wanted to at least note it. A highlight - OK, a he-said-what? highlight, but a highlight - of the KAKM/KSKA “Running” debate of the congressional candidates last week was Frank Vondersaar, Democrat for U.S. Senate. This was his opening statement, reeled off with hardly pausing for breath:

“I am Frank Vondersaar. My goal in running for the U.S. Senate is to end the 28-year fascist culture of corruption and abuse of power personified by Theodore Stevens. I differ from the other candidates having been a political prisoner of the fascist criminal regimes of Cheney-Bush, Bush-Quayle and Reagan-Bush for the last 25 years, having experienced first-hand the torture, terrorism and treachery of U.S. secret police terrorist criminal surveillance harassment teams and the subversion of the Constitution by corrupt, lying, hard-core fascist criminal politicians, bureaucrats, flag officers and their co-conspirators, collaborators and stooges. I am better prepared than the other candidates to fight on your behalf to end those abuses.” Then he gave his Web site.

I’m told he was not reading.

Gotta Love it..

Like that 'Ol Tyme religeon.

W got us so wrapped up in all this terrorism sales pitch we kinda forgot all about the FASCISTS.

Maybe depending on election results we can think of Tuesday August 26 as a modern "D-Day."

The Adams Family on Meet the Press

The very best political material I ever saw was the Democratic Primary debate on KSKM for the 1996 US Senate race. Teresa was there and with the likes of Frank Vondersaar and other equally amazing specimens she was in the middle of the pack in terms of out there factor. I had a copy of the show but I lent it to someone and never got it back. If anyone knows where i can get a copy I would be grateful. It is timeless. The participants should so a reunion tour at say the Beartooth. It made national news and was described as The Adams Family on Meet the Press. Mr Vondersaar says he is from Homer but he must really be from Fairbanks.

Best part of that old primary debate

Vondesaar is answering questions and posing them as well and sounds relatively normal. Normal that is until one of his opponents asks him about black helicopters and then he falls off the edge of the planet directly into la-la land. I think the correct term is bat-sh** crazy. So much for looking like the sane one in the bunch.

Huh?

.

  August 25, 2008 - 9:36pm | Syntax

just a joke

That line is from a movie with Charlton Heston...

  August 25, 2008 - 9:56pm | LilysDaddy

I got the movie reference, sintax,

but what does the "black helicopter" thing have to do with fascists and stooges?

  August 26, 2008 - 6:36am | Syntax

conspiracy theory with Mel Gibson

black helicopters, noiseless actually, appearing out of nowhere with super secret government agents kidnapping civilians...

Frank's speech reminded me of that movie with Mel Gibson.

Soitenly!

Actually, far from being "fascists," the Three Stooges were the first (1940) in mainstream American media to satirize Hitler, Göring, Mussolini and others.

I think Mr. Vondersaar may be mixing his metaphors just a little. And I only counted "fascist" being used 19 times on his linked web page. Sorry, I may have missed a few.

(Is Moe running this year?)
