Aces sign lifelong friends

Erik Fabian and Luke Erickson grew up one house apart, played together on Roseau High's Minnesota state championship team in 1999, played a year of junior hockey together and played their first year of pro pucks together in Pensacola, Fla.

And now they're sticking together for their sophomore campaigns -- the Alaska Aces of the ECHL announced the signing of the 25-year-old forwards today.

Fabian, the former North Dakota skater, earned 10-13--23 totals in 47 games last season for now-defunct Pensacola, which was the worst team in the ECHL. Erickson, the former Bemidji State skater, was fourth on the Ice Pilots in goals with 15-16--31 totals in 70 games.

Pensacola scored just 157 goals last season, 26 fewer than any other team in the ECHL.

Aces coach Keith McCambridge said both players were strongly recommended by former Pensacola coach John Marks, who knows a thing or two about pucks. The former NHLer, who now coaches the Augusta Lynx of the ECHL, has won two ECHL championships and a Southern Professional League Championship, and in 21 seasons as a minor league coach been behind the bench for 757 wins.

Body Part

Boys, boys, boys. Did your little "who's right exchange" make any of your body parts grow bigger? Didn't think so.

  August 21, 2008 - 4:32pm | section_213L

Nothing got bigger...

...but nothing got smaller either (which is good)!

I'm just going to call it even.

Good Luck to the New Guys...

Here's hoping they both find girlfriends and have career years just like Bo did last season!

What do you think electric, sound like a plan? These guys are "local celebrities"at best; do they really need you questioning their work ethic or their personal lives?

Keep up the good work guys.

As a long-time season ticket

As a long-time season ticket holder, I feel I have every right to question his work ethic... at least in this forum. By no means does that mean he owes me an explanation/answer, but I have every right to comment on his performance. It's what fans do, in case you hadn't figured that out. As for his personal life, if he doesn't bring it to the ice nobody will question it. I certainly hope Bo has a great year. He's a lot of fun to watch when he's on his game, and I'm glad he's returning.

Comprende?

As for these two new kids from Pensacola, I'm excited to have them both headed to AK. One of Fabian's former teammates from ND is also on his way... he'll be an exciting kid to watch between the pipes. All in all, coach is putting together a very exciting squad. I'm ready for October, already!

As a long time season ticket holder myself:

I feel your passion is unmistakable and your criticism is misguided. We can agree to disagree on what may have been the reason for Bo's late season slump (injury, fatigue, girlfriend, whatever); but he will be an important part of the Aces success again this season.

Here's to another great year...

Misguided? Think what you

Misguided? Think what you will. Not everyone blindly follows the flock.

Go Aces!

  August 21, 2008 - 1:57pm | section_213L

Everyone No;

But I would expect more from a "long time season ticket holder". Maybe uninformed better describes your critique...

The most important thing to remember is that long time season ticket holder isn't the same thing as long time fan.

Comprende???

  August 21, 2008 - 2:13pm | electric

Uninformed? Hardly. Just

Uninformed? Hardly. Just because you disagree with me doesn't mean I'm uninformed. Don't you think it's possible that you don't see the full picture yourself? You're way off base to question my dedication as a fan. I don't question yours simply because we disagree on this matter.

What exactly is it you expect from a season ticket holder?

  August 21, 2008 - 4:21pm | section_213L

You're correct:

I should have left it at we can agree to disagree on this particular subject and not questioned your "fandom".

No reason to stoop down to the level of others by questioning someones dedication and I sincerely apologize.

  August 21, 2008 - 7:01am | Skeptical

I doubt that their wives

would appreciate them finding girlfriends, but hey, you never know, right?

  August 21, 2008 - 8:06am | section_213L

You're probably right...

...but we can still hope for them to have a great year on the ice!
