The Pebble Blog

The gigantic Pebble copper and gold prospect in Southwest Alaska is one of the touchiest topics in Alaska today.

In this blog, I'll track news that is significant or interesting about the Pebble project. I'll also try to generate discussion and information sharing about some of the claims and counterclaims about the project, and mining in general.

Please keep your comments courteous and on topic. If you violate the ADN comment policy, your posts will be deleted.

About Elizabeth Bluemink ebluemink@adn.com

I've been writing about mining in Alaska since 2004 and without a doubt, it is one of the most interesting topics that I cover at the Daily News. I've been a newspaper reporter for the past 10 years. In the Deep South, I specialized in reporting about environmental conflicts and pollution cleanups. For two years, I covered commercial fishing, mining and logging in Southeast Alaska. In my current job as a Daily News business reporter, I write about mining, tourism, Native corporations and other businesses.

Wahoo!

I'm stoked. This will be great! In a battle of logic and reason I predict a clear cut slam dunk for the existing mining regulations. Safe, clean water and great fishing for all Alaskans now and forever. The anti-mining crowd will resort to rhetoric and emotional responses.

I heard Switzer called NANA an outside interest group and compared them to AJS. If this is true, what a joke. Does anyone have a recording of his statement? Maybe share the recording for us all to enjoy?

Just say NO to BM#4

Calm down, lets not get emotional....

Remember it's the miners who are suppose to have logic and reason on their side.
NANA does own part or all of many Lower 48 companies.
There is no ANTI MINING crowd by the way.

I'm just saying...

bring it! The truth will set you free. If that isn't something to get excited about I don't know what is.

You know if it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck... It's very clear proponents for this measure are very anti-mining. There will be people from the Sierra Club, RRF, The Daily Kos, Alaska Coalition, Wildlife Society (The Spotted Owl People), Wildlife Forever, and list goes on... These are all non-profits that are clearly anti-mining, anti-gas, anti-oil, and anti-development. You can quack all you want about not being part of an anti-mining crowd but I know I duck when I hear one.

I'm sure all these groups and there members will be trying to stir everyones emotions and claiming all sort of ludicrous claims. Maybe, some of them will be dressed up in costumes?

How ridiculous to claim or insinuate NANA as an outside interest company.

Say No to Prop 4!

  August 13, 2008 - 2:07am | Sockeyemark

To say prop 4 shuts down mining is nonsense

At what point does NANA become an outside entity. When their portfolio becomes 60 to 70% of outside companies? I don't know, kind of like Alaska Airlines. I find it ridiculous that they carry the Alaska name when they are a Seattle based company.
Don't want to cloud the subject here.
Proposition 4 is not going to shut down mining....
Be 4 it's too late..........Vote YES

Poll is closed, pretty much a dead heat....we all need to exercise our right to vote come August 26th........
Now go and do the Right Thing,,,,,,Yes on 4
