Woman accused of stealing from job

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) _ A 40-year-old Fairbanks woman is accused of stealing nearly $10,000 from her former employer.

Melissa L. Carter is charged with theft.

Authorities say Carter put $9,900 belonging to ColorTyme Rent-To-Own onto a prepaid credit card while working there as an assistant financial service manager.

The alleged theft was discovered in late June when the money could not be accounted for.

According to court documents, Carter admitted taking the money to pay off bills after she initially denied knowing about the missing funds.

The court papers also say Carter told police she was borrowing money from relatives and planned to pay back ColorTyme by the end of August.
