3 Alaskans Headed To USA Hockey Women's Festival

Three Alaskans -- defensemen Kerry Weiland of Palmer, Cori Bassett of Anchorage and Alev Kelter of Eagle River -- were among 64 players named Tuesday to participate in the 2008 USA Hockey Women's National Festival later this month in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Weiland, 27, a member of the U.S. Women's Select Team, is a former two-time All-American at Wisconsin who has previously represented the country in international hockey. She helped Team USA to the world championship last April.

Bassett, 20, plays at Harvard University. She is a member of the Under-22 Select team that will play a three-game series against Canada in Quebec later this month. The Festival, which features practices and games, is Aug. 12-23.

Kelter, 17, last spring helped Team USA capture gold at the International Ice Hockey Federation's U-18 Championship. She's part of the U-18 team that will play a three-game series against Canada in Lake Placid in the last days of the Festival.
