Thursday is National Tequila Day, so get ready to celebrate with fellow patrons of Patron (that never gets old) at your favorite watering hole.
Is it just me, or is July full of days celebrating alcohol? Maybe that’s why so many people I know have birthdays in April. (That’s nine months later, for you slow counters.)
One place you might want to visit is the Bear Tooth Grill (1230 W. 27th Ave.), where the lovely Amy Mack assures me you can get a veritable smorgasbord of all things tequila. This includes tastings, margaritas and other cocktails created around the agave nectar.
In fact, the Grill is creating a special for Tequila Day: The Beartooth Synergy Margarita. The "synergy" aspect derives from the fact that, from head to toe, the drink is made with in-house ingredients, including the Grill's reposado, chili-lime mango liqueur (being used for the first time!) and margarita mix topped with an ancho-chile salt for the rim. Um, yum. The drink will cost $9 Thursday and is served on the rocks with salt unless specified otherwise. Don't worry, they’ll blend the drink if you ask.
Or you could wait a day and head to Don Jose’s (2052 E. Northern Lights Blvd.) Friday where not only will you find a ton of tequila to choose from, you can also enjoy the restaurant’s 25th anniversary and the pouring of the 2 millionth margarita. Now that’s cause for celebration.
In other news, last week’s Tales of the Cocktail gathering of spirits in New Orleans went off with rousing success. Since 2003 the event has tried to introduce spirit lovers to the world of the cocktail -- in Louisiana and beyond. It’s like a big foodie event with famous chefs, except with cocktails.
