Location: Haines
Case Number: 08-57922
Type: MVC-D
Text: On 07/17/08 at 0703 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to 35
mile Haines Highway for a single vehicle rollover with the lone occupant
trapped inside. The pregnant driver was identified as 23 yoa Jennifer
Sheldon of Haines who was operating a green 1999 Toyota Rav 4.
Investigation revealed Sheldon's vehicle had a flat rear tire before she
left her residence for work on the morning of 07/17/08. The flat tire
was replaced by a new tire with much longer tread than the original
tire. Sheldon believed the difference in tread length between the two
rear tires caused the vehicle to become squirrelly at high speeds.
Sheldon lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected causing it to roll
once coming to rest on it's roof. Sheldon was initially trapped inside
but was able to free herself from the vehicle uninjured. Sheldon was
transported to the Haines S.E.A.R.H.C. Clinic via ambulance due to her
pregnancy. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene.
