We are starting by posting the Alaska State Troopers' daily logs, our own crime-related stories and other relevant items as we come across them. The Daily News encourages community engagement and discussion of issues of crime and criminal justice. Comments are not edited and will be posted immediately. A Noorvik woman accused of breaking into two teacher housing units and causing $10,000 in damage has been arrested on felony charges of burglary and criminal mischief. See the dispatch out of Noorvik below.

Text: At 1550 hours Alaska State Troopers were notified of a missing
hiker near Reed Falls near Sitka. Chenghaw Quin 18 yoa, of China, a
passenger aboard the cruise ship Norwegian Pearl, was hiking in the area
of Reed falls when he became lost. Air searchers spotted Quin at the
1800 foot level of Reed Falls, and ground searchers contacted him at
1919 hours. Quin was in good shape and given a ride back to the
Norwegian Pearl.

Type: Motor Vehicle Collision-Damage
Text: On 7/3/08 at 1100 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a
single motor vehicle collision near mile 1.5 of the South Tongass
Highway. Troopers contacted the driver, Sayers M. McAlpin, age 19 of
Ketchikan. McAlpin was driving a 2001 Ford pickup on the South Tongass
Highway when he lost control of the pickup. The pickup collided with a
guard rail causing $1000.00 damage to the pickup and $1000.00 to the
guard rail. Both the driver and his passenger were wearing seat belts
and sustained no injuries.

Type: Damage MVC & Driving While License Suspended
Text: On 7/2/2008, approx. 0545 hours, Alaska State troopers responded
to a two vehicle collision on Seward Meridian Parkway at Palmer Wasilla
Highway in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that 35 yoa Ian T. Demello
of Wasilla was operating a white 1994 Ford Escort when he failed to
remain stopped for a steady red traffic control signal while traveling
southbound on Seward Meridian Parkway. Demello's actions resulted in
his Escort colliding with the side of a green 1991 Chevrolet pick up
truck operated by 24 yoa Peteroy A. Lincoln Jr., also of Wasilla. The
Escort was totaled in the collision while the pick up truck sustained an
estimated $5,000.00 damage. No injuries were sustained in the collision
and all parties involved reported wearing a seat belt at the time of the
collision. Further investigation revealed that Demello was operating
the vehicle while his driver's license is revoked. Demello was cited
for failure to stop at the steady red traffic control signal as well as
arrested for DWLR. Demello was remanded to MSPT where he was held on
$250.00 bail.

Type: Burglary in the First Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fifth
Degree and Theft in the Fourth Degree
Text: On 07/02/2008, at approximately 2230 hours, Alaska State Troopers
responded to a Burglary in the area of 4.6 mile Lakes Boulevard in
Houston. Investigation revealed the suspect gained entrance to the
residence through a partially opened window. The window was damaged in
the amount of approximately $50.00. Approximately $30.00 worth of items
were taken from the residence. The case is under investigation. Anyone

Text: On 7-3-08 at 0158 hours the Alaska State Troopers stopped a 1986
Nissan Maxima for a moving violation at mile 40 Glenn Highway. The
driver was identified as Stefan Whites (35 YOA of Palmer).
Investigation revealed that Whites was driving while his license is
suspended and he was operating a vehicle with improper license plates
attached. Whites was issued a summons for driving with a suspended
license and a summons for misuse of plates, Whites was released on
scene.

Text: On 7/2/08 at approximately 2357 hours, Troopers responded to
approximately mile 50 Parks Highway for the report of a fight along the
roadway. Investigation determined Christoffer C. Inman, age 21 of
Wasilla had assaulted an individual and both were present when Troopers
arrived. Department records indicated Inman had an outstanding arrest
warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of DWLR. Inman was
transported to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility and held on $2250.00 bail.

Type: Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest
Text: On 7-2-08, at approximately 0204 hours, Gambell VPO's contacted
Nome AST to report that they had contacted Amos Slwooko, 24 yoa of
Gambell. Investigation determined that Slwooko had engaged in fighting
with another person and the reason for the fight was not for self
defense. During the course of his arrest Slwooko resisted arrest by the
VPO's. VPO's were able to restrain and eventually detain Slwooko.
Slwooko was charged with Disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and
transported to AMCC without further incident.

Type: Search and Rescue
Text: On 7-2-08, at approximately 0000 hours, Nome AST was contacted and
advised that Harold Olanna, 72 yoa of Shishmaref, had not returned from
hunting. Olanna left Shishmaref on 7-2-08, and told family that he
would return in the evening. Olanna had complained of chest pain and
did not take his medication with him. AST authorized a hasty team to
take a boat and search the area Olanna was reported to be hunting. At
approximately 0100 hours, Olanna contacted the village via radio and
reported that he was on his way home and was running late. Searchers
were turned back and Olanna returned home without injury.

Type: Habitual Minor Consuming, Resisting Arrest, Assault 4 on a police
officer, Assault 4 on a police officer.
Text: On 7-2-08, at approximately 2315 hours, Gambell VPO's contacted
Nome AST to report that they had contacted Mary Iyakitan, 18 yoa of
Gambell, at a residence while she was intoxicated. Investigation
determined that Iyakitan was intoxicated, resisted arrest and assaulted
two VPO's during the course of her arrest. Iyakitan was arrested for
Habitual Minor Consuming, Resisting Arrest, and two counts of Assault 4
on a police officer and transported to AMCC without further incident.

Text: On 7/3/08, State Troopers arrested Shellain R. Adams, 18 yoa, of
Noorvik for an outstanding warrant for two counts of burglary 1 and two
counts of criminal mischief 3. The warrant was obtained by State
Troopers after an investigation revealed that Adams was directly
involved in the 6/22/08 burglary of two Noorvik teacher housing units
which resulted in over $10,000 in damages. Adams was transported to

Type: Motor Vehicle Collision - Damage
Text: On 07-02-08 at 2242 hours, Troopers responded to a single vehicle
motor vehicle collision at Milepost 177 Parks Highway. Investigation
revealed that Troy Williams, age 39 of Cantwell, was traveling
southbound in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado when the hitch broke loose from
his trailer. The trailer overturned blocking traffic temporarily. No
injuries were reported, and Williams was believed to be wearing a
seatbelt. Damage is estimated to be approximately $9,000.00.

Text: On 07-02-08 at 1542 hours, Troopers were dispatched to the Healy
power plant for the report that somebody had stolen copper wire.
Investigation revealed that within the last month, somebody stole
approximately $6,000.00 worth of copper wire. A reward may be offered
for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person

Text: On 07/01/08 at approximately 1538 hours, troopers conducted a
traffic stop on a white 1994 Chevy Camaro for having a modified exhaust
and for not having a front license plate. The driver of the vehicle was
identified as Travis N. Maddox, age 21, of Delta Junction. A records
check showed that Maddox was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended
license. Maddox was arrested for DWLS and issued a citation for Failure
to Provide Proof of Insurance. Maddox was released on $500.00 bail.
