The Kasilof 5K... 5K-ing Awesome

So I have a suggestion, for whoever likes to plan things that include commemorative T-shirts, wrist and headbands - and for whoever likes to drink in good company. A bar crawl to beat all bar crawls, a 5-K that includes no exercise whatsoever - a bar bus tour. With a literal bus - I'm talking Laidlaw. And I'm speaking from experience, because I know it can be done.

This weekend I returned to my home town for the annual Kasilof 5-K. A tour of some of the coolest, old-schoolest and farthest-apart bars in the state. All via a big yellow school bus. If we can do it in Kasilof, why not Big Lake, or Wasilla? Why not an Anchorage-to-Eagle River tour? The possibilities are endless.

Of course, so are the legal issues. And the occurrences of lewdness, over-intoxication and general un-school-bus-like behavior. But even so, I have to say that being able to climb into green-leathered, two-to-a-seat, smells-like-middle-school seats when you really can't even dial a cell phone, much less drive, is a very, very comforting feeling. And, it's safe, convenient and a great way to travel.

Anyway, I digress. I just wanted to throw the idea out there - if a man in a neon pink wetsuit can plan and pull off something involving 50 people and several beers, I'm sure someone in Anchorage can handle the task. Who knows? Maybe this year is the year for the first ever inaugural Mat-Su Valley bar run. Or maybe it's the 18th year, and I'm just not cool enough to have heard about it yet.... Either way, I've posted some photos for my dear readers to enjoy and perhaps become inspired by. And look! I'm not partying in downtown Anchorage this time, ha! Take note.
