Classy Move: Tampa Bay Drafts David Carle

In a touching, classy move Saturday, the Tampa Bay Lightning drafted defenseman David Carle of Anchorage, who earlier this week learned he can no longer play hockey because of a heart condition.

The Lightning made Carle, 18, their seventh-round pick, 203rd overall. Carle, whose scholarship to the University of Denver is being honored by the school, absorbed his tough news from the Mayo Clinic earlier this week with remarkable maturity. (To read more about Carle, click here.

Best of luck to David in the future, and good on Tampa Bay for making such a classy move.

Congrats!!!

Congratulations to David and his family. He deserves it and so does his family. With all our (hockey fans) support I know that you, David, will suceed in whatever you chose to do in your life. Hockey will always be there for you cause it's what has made you the fine young man that you are, along with the great family support that you have. And toTampa Bay you have to be the class act of the NHL as of now, at least here in Alaska you are. You now have a new fan.

From the St. Pete Times

With its final pick, 203rd overall, Tampa Bay took defenseman David Carle. An interesting choice since Carle, the brother of San Joses's Matt Carle, withdrew from the draft after being diagnosed with a heart condition. But the son of prospective owner Oren koules attends the same high school, Shattuck-St. Mary's in Minnesota from which Carle graduated. Besides Koules said, "The kid worked his whole life to be drafted in the NHL, and I don't see a reason he shouldn't be."

It was quite a nice gesture.
