Crime Blog

This is a new blog dedicated to the general topic of crime and crime prevention in Alaska. We are starting by posting the Alaska State Troopers' daily logs, our own crime-related stories and other relevant items as we come across them. The Daily News encourages community engagement and discussion of issues of crime and criminal justice. Comments are not edited and will be posted immediately. We know that stories about crime often provoke strong reactions, but we insist that you keep your comments on point, use good taste and show courtesy toward other writers. Posts that violate the Terms of Use will be deleted, and repeat offenders will be banned from adn.com. When presenting factual information, take care that it is accurate and cite and/or link to sources where appropriate.

Guardsman charged with child molestation

An Anchorage man was arrested at the National Guard armory on Fort Richardson Tuesday and charged with three felony counts of sexual assault of a minor, according to Alaska State Troopers.

John John Bill, 36, was arrested at about 10:30 a.m. and charged with one count of first-degree sexual assault of a minor and two counts of second degree sexual assault of a minor, according to troopers.

Anchorage police, who conducted the investigation into Bill, a member of the Air National Guard, got the tip last week and soon discovered at least two victims, said Sgt. Cindi Stanton, supervisor of the crimes against children unit.

The first to report was a friend of Bill’s family who reported the assault immediately after it happened, she said. Another victim subsequently came forward with previous assaults, she said. Both known victims were pre-teen children, Stanton said.

She said police believe there are more victims and they are asking the public to call 786-8900 with any relevant information.

Bill was booked at the Anchorage jail on $10,000 bail. According to court records, he has no criminal history in Alaska.

names play a roll

anyone ever notice people who have a first and last name that could be used as either end up being molesters or seriel killers. How about Sirhan Sirhan, Woody Allen, Lee Oswald, maybe we should start keeping an eye on bill clinton and bill allen

seek help

The saddist part of this whole thing is that there are too many molestations that go unreported. We need to remember the real victims in this, the children. There is plenty of help available for the wives, children and family members to aid in the healing process. But only if it is reported. Do not be afraid and DON"T let your children think it was their fault.

His family is victimized as well. I agree.

Nonetheless, he needs to be put in prison for a long, long time. It's quite possible that he needs to be there for the rest of his life. So be it. He has forever hurt and embarassed his wife and children, totally messed up at least 2 young people, and has disgraced the uniform. My full sympathy is directed to the survivors of his crimes.

Sicko....

Why arent you in the front lines of war? You should be getting shot at everyday instead of the young men who just graduated from high school. You are a donkey! Hang up your uniform and hang your head low, only the best represent our armed forces.

He has a family

Please keep in mind that this man, sick as he is, has a family, wife, and children, who deserve to be protected from this. Justice needs to be done, but the victims, friends of his daughters, who all need to be respected and protected. So, please, watch your words. He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but mutilation? Who is sick?

The Worst Of It Is

That there is no cure for these type of people as they continue on no matter what is done. Put them in prison for years and as soon as they get out they are back at it again.

How about if we have the solution of taking them out and leaving them on The Chain for life. No reason to "punish" them just make sure that they can never get back to the Mainland again is all. Some of those islands have got lots of rats on them so they'd never go hungry.

It is sad and disappointing

It is sad and disappointing that there are such sick people out there that are willing to do such hurtful things to children. Thankfully this man was caught so that he can be punished even tho no punishment seems to stop them. Hopefully these poor children will see some justice in him having to serve some time tho.

Maybe

Maybe he was a victim of a priest?

  June 17, 2008 - 10:44pm | alaskanjade

what are you suggesting?

now i'm not saying this guy did anything because i have heard only one side of the story and even that isn't complete....

however, even if he were a victim of a priest, he has absolutely no right to victimize other children. especially if he were a victim of a priest, he should not to choose to hurt anyone as he had been hurt - if he were a victim.
