Brides2Be

Marlena Wojcik lives with her fiance in Eagle River, AK. Originally from Chicago, she moved to Alaska last summer to be with the love of her life and is currently making plans for her Special Day, which will take place next October just thirty minutes outside of Chicago--- it's a destination wedding, sort of. Her challenge is to balance needs, wants, aesthetics, practicality, family politics, and THE BUDGET...dah da duuuuuuuuh. So far, she and her fiance are still getting along. Got any advice for them? Planning a wedding? Just finished planning a wedding? Share your stories/suggestions/forewarnings here. This is your forum.

...Because no Bride2Be should suffer alone.

Minor Setbacks vs. Global Catastrophes

There are minor setbacks, and then there are the unexpected expenses that rattle everyone and are beyond anyone's control or comprehension. Take for example, the horrific earthquake in China, ten days after another large disaster, the Myanmar Cyclone.

The most sobering element is the disaster’s ripple effect in time. Beyond the one day of its occurrence, there are weeks, months, years of rebuilding and mourning. Decades later, long after wounds are healed over, cities reconstructed, and headlines have moved on, the bride and groom who picked the day of May 12 to unite their families in Sichuan Province won’t be able to celebrate a wedding anniversary without memories of the earthquake.

There is a saving grace to this story. In addition to knowing no one was hurt at this location, there is tangible faith and redemption in the resilient human spirit. In the face of disaster, they have each other, and on unsteady ground, love keeps us strong. Finding Comfort: Photo taken by the Associated PressFinding Comfort: Photo taken by the Associated Press
