Well we're finally here. We actually made it to Ft Meade about two weeks ago, but things have been pretty hectic getting settled.
After almost a month in Minnesota we hit the road. I had to make a few stops in Iowa to visit my grandmothers grave and see one of the homes and farm that I grew up on.
Hindsight being what it is, I really wish I had bought a quad cab instead of the extended cab. Just an afterthought, the truck reads that we went through 838 gallons and change on the trip down! Gotta love that 8.1 liter.
On the way down I recieved word that I was being awarded a Segway by a charitable organization called DRAFT.
They awarded about 30 to wounded vets at Walter Reed. It really makes it easier to get around, I am able to walk but extended periods are painfull and tiring. It means alot to be able to get around with my family instead of just not going.
That weekend we traveled down to southwestern Virginia for one of my best friends wedding. Those pics will be coming next time we travel down there.
Currently we have been staying in the camper on Ft Meades RV park.
It is pretty relaxing and I enjoy it, but due to space limitations JJ and Corrine are still in Minesota with Nana. We thought that I may need a revision due to bone pushing out of the end of my stump, but since it is not penetrating the skin I don't need it. We didn't want to have the older two around if I needed to have surgery again. It was pretty hard on them to see me in that condition.
Given the fact that I don't need another surgery and the fact that we sign for quarters on the 31st of May, the kids will be coming down in the beginning of June. I don't think I need to tell you how hard it is without them.
I know that this seems to be a pattern, but now that we are here, I promise to keep up on this thing. Hopefully the fact that I have not been able to get online much to post hasn't driven anyone away.
BTW if anyone here has last Thursdays (15 May) edition of the Washington Post, I'd love a copy. I guess I was featured in it with the Segway event.
I'll talk to you guys later, take care-Ferg
