Alaska Politics

This is the place to talk about Alaska politics -- state, local, national. Public life in the Last Frontier may never have been more interesting than right now -- the broad and still-evolving corruption investigation, a big election, a popular governor, powerful members of Congress under scrutiny, and the usual hardball Alaska politics. Come here for news, tidbits and information, and join the discussion. Keep your comments civil and on point. Avoid personal attacks. Do not use profanity. Mt. McKinley: Pride of the Rockies

Denali: Not in Colorado. (Evan R. Steinhauser/Anchorage Daily News)Denali: Not in Colorado. (Evan R. Steinhauser/Anchorage Daily News)

From Kyle Hopkins in Anchorage:

This from Begich (campaign) spokeswoman Julie Hasquet today:

Bob Schaffer, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate from Colorado, launched his TV ads today. Unfortunately, he used Alaska's Mount McKinley (also called Denali) in the spot. And while Alaskans can understand why Schaffer would promote our beautiful mountain, I hope he doesn't expect Alaska to cede North America's highest peak to the State of Colorado.

Looks like the video of the ad's been pulled from YouTube.

Begich to Markey

Click here for a letter from Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich to U.S. Rep Ed Markey, a Massachussettes Democrat who wants to permanently bar ANWR from future oil drilling.

Alot of good that did. Mayor Begich it's Osito polar (guaranteed to get you votes, people will want to come up and pinch your cheek while saying you are so cute) when you try to explain why the Democrats favor the endangered species act and the clean air act.

Ted Stevens and Don Young...

...with a completely Republican-dominated Congress plus a Republican President, couldn't get it done.

So what's your point, exactly?

  May 14, 2008 - 7:40pm | tlamb775

Some might ask

what is the point of Begich's response to a Senate candidate in Colorado.

Let's hear how Beigch is going to work with a liberal congress and "get er done" on a gas pipeline or opening ANWR.

You argument is partisan and forgets the fact that there are Republicans who follow the liberal mantra on ANWR like McCain.

The point is simple, Begich can't "get er done" because he subscribes to a party and is a member of aparty that within its majority opposes any development in Alaska and enables the agenda of environmental groups.

But hey he sure is likelable and that is good enough for many to vote for him.

Contrary to your argument is the fact that the Republican party majority supports development in Alaska.

Too funny

You calling someone partisan. Thanks for the laugh.

yep...

Lamb is just another Party-boy lackey...maybe he can get a job in Oregon working for those Party favorites that like to "get'er done"

Cartman and Lamp

I am on record on how I feel about McCain. He is a Republican.

Which potential presidential candidate will serve Alaska's best interest.

At the moment

the candidate least likely to do further harm to Alaska is.....

RALPH NADER

If only because, were he to win, nobody would pay any attention to him.
