Alaska Politics Blog

This is the place to talk about Alaska politics -- state, local, national. Public life in the Last Frontier has probably never been more interesting than right now -- the governor as candidate for vice president, the broad and still-evolving corruption investigation, a big election, powerful members of Congress under scrutiny, and the usual hardball Alaska politics. Come here for news, tidbits and information, and join the discussion. Keep your comments civil and on point. Avoid personal attacks. Do not use profanity. Marketing the mayor

From Kyle Hopkins in Anchorage --

With Julie Hasquet off to work on the Senate campaign, the mayor's hired a new spokeswoman: Jenny Evans.

Here's the announcement:

Mayor Mark Begich has named Jenny Evans as the Communications Director in the mayor's office, replacing Julie Hasquet, who joined Mayor Begich's senatorial campaign in late April.

Before joining the Mayor's executive staff, Evans was the director of Marketing and Public Relations for The Alaska Club. Her background also includes working as the Communications Director for Anchorage Economic Development Corporation and as an account supervisor for Bradley/Reid Communications.

"Jenny's experience in marketing and communications will be valuable as we continue to move forward with growing the Anchorage community," Mayor Begich said. "She is committed to our vision of making Anchorage a healthy, safe and prosperous place to live."

Evans is a lifelong Alaskan who graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor of arts in English Literature and a bachelor of science in Political Science.

I agree...

and coot, you are blind. Rubini has been directing mark's moves ever since he bought him with the 'commission' of part ownership of the Calais Buildings.

Intelligent men...

... recognize the value of intelligent women. I've worked with both of these women in a professional capacity. They are both more than qualified. It's not a contest. It's smart delegation.

Big Shoes to Fill

Jenny Evans has some really big shoes to fill. If I were the Mayor I could only be so lucky as to have a press person like Julie Hasquet directing my moves.

?

Mark Begich certainly accepts advice from others, but he is not the sort of person to permit others to "direct his moves", as you put it.

He's no George W. Bush, in other words.
