Strong bodies: fitness & health

This blog will cover all city and statewide bodybuilding competitions and the out-of-state guest posers. Weight-loss success stories from local people, features/bios on bodybuilding, fitness and figure competitors, coverage of fad diets. Nutritious recipes and reviews on local gyms and health food stores. I would also like to cover Adult/Childhood Obesity in America and specifically,Alaska. Weight-lifting techniques/safety as well as the benefits for women. This is just a general idea, as the blog will be constantly evolving.

Warning: Water bottle may cause cancer

Nalgene recently recalled their plastic water bottles made with a hormone-like chemical called Bisphenol A (BPA). The chemical is said to be leached into drinking water when the plastic gets warm. For years there has been speculation that plastic water bottles of any kind left in a hot car may cause the plastic to soften, thus releasing hazardous chemicals. So, this whole time we thought we were doing something healthy by drinking water but are instead quenching our thirst from the cancer causing bottle of death.

There's hope for all of you non-plastic water bottle drinkers out there. Klean Kanteen makes a stainless steel water bottle that is supposed to be a healthier alternative to plastic bottles. I purchased one of my own a few months back and like it very much. The water stays cold and I don't have to worry about an estrogen-like hormone waiting to be swallowed each time I take a drink. The bottle is surprisingly light-weight, but unfortunately does not come in any size bigger than 40oz. Check out their Web site.

Klean Kanteen

I recently purchased this stainless steel water bottle and it is light-weight and your water stays cool. I would like to find it in a half gallon size, but for now this will work. At least I am not worrying about my Nalgene water bottle getting warm in my truck while running errands.

Sheesh!

Well, in this day and age, it isn't surprising to hear that something causes cancer, but usually it is just speculation. I've heard a lot about this issue lately and checked it out... I guess nalgene is now advertising that all of their water bottles are made without the BPA now - if you go to REI, they are ony selling non BPA water bottles. Very interesting!! In an effort to stay "green" and stay healthy, those water bottles are essential. Thanks for all the good info!
