Post Your Progress

We're half way through the 40th Annual Anchorage Chamber Citywide Cleanup. Thank you to everyone who has already filled their Orange Bags with litter.

I have received a lot of nice comments from Super Sweeper Coordinators and area businesses. Everyone is enjoying the weather and taking pride in our city. One coordinator wrote, "The kids had a GREAT time cleaning up the school grounds and around Lake Otis area today. They wanted to stay out longer which is a good thing!"

Please share your comments here by posting a comment.

And thank you to those who have committed to cleaning in the coming days. Here's a look at how many people have pledged their time this week.
Wednesday: 25
Thursday: 44
Friday: 505
Saturday: 189 plus all the Super Sweepers at participating schools

And for all the Cleanup Hereos out there - don't forget to join us for the Clean Sweep Celebration on May 9 from 4-6pm. We will be on the Delaney Park Strip having some good clean fun!

Thank you for cleaning up our fair city!

Thank you very much to the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce and everyone who helps organize the Citywide Cleanup and other great cleanup events and organizations around the state. CRW Engineering Group is a proud sponsor and participant in these cleanups, and we are grateful for the opportunity to get out, get our hands dirty, and help clean up the community. Thank you also to our awesome CReW of volunteers, who help keep these events going!
We had a group of 8 cleaners, who cleaned for 2 hours at the Dowling roundabout this afternoon.

To Providence Imaging Center staff who participated - thanks!

Many thanks to all who participated in this year’s second annual PIC Cleanup of Goose Lake and vicinity! This year we participated with the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, which provided us an excellent opportunity to get some expanded coverage of our participation. These mighty volunteers wielding “grabbers” borrowed from Tom S. and the excellent Providence Grounds Crew (thanks, Tom, once again!) collected ten bags of trash that weighed 140 lbs. total. Special thanks also go to Gail Palmer of Art Services North who organized this Year’s cleanup! (From Gail - Thank you for your kind words. Art Services North is a proud member of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. I just want to remind everyone that the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce is responsible for Citywide Cleanup every year. It was my pleasure to coordinate efforts for 2008.)

Our folks were still smiling after collecting everything from car parts, bottles, Hello Kitty slippers, bottle caps, cigarette butts (did I mention CIGARETTE BUTTS?), and other sundry items. Infection control was never an issue as we had protective gloves and our nurse on hand!
Food provided afterwards provided great solace to the troops. Only one question was left on our minds: Where was everyone else? Could we not have rallied and gathered even more hidden treasure, with more help?

To all PIC staff: Please consider volunteering next year. It is always a fun time, and very gratifying. I will get the word out sooner, and we will be even more organized than ever before.

Yours truly,

Sir Benevolent

Cleanup on Sentry

Gateway School had over 58 participants cleaning the school grounds and neighborhood. MANY bags were gathered and the kids had a lot of fun with collecting the junk. Community service is vital and if we all do a little part this city can look as good as new after a long winter. The weather was great...nice and warm. The students had positive attitudes and were excited to continue cleaning up in other areas in town. What a terrific program to be a part of!! Thank you from those at Gateway School to the Chamber of Commerce and all those who organized the event.
