So Long, Aces; But Other Alaska Connections Live

The last game of the season at Sullivan Arena ended with a 6-3 Las Vegas Wranglers win that snuffed the Alaska Aces' ECHL playoff run -- Las Vegas won the best-of-7 series, 4-1 -- but Alaska connections remain alive throughout North American pro hockey.

San Jose Sharks defenseman Matt Carle and his club live for another day after beating Dallas, 3-2 in overtime, in Game 5. San Jose, once down 3-0, has bounced back to trail 3-2. Carle was -1 in 15:47 of ice time, with two hits and three blocked shots. Also in the NHL, New York Rangers centers Scott Gomez and Brandon Dubinsky of Anchorage try to stave of elimination Sunday at the hands of Pittsburgh, which includes backup goaltender Ty Conklin of Anchorage.

In the American Hockey League, the Providence Bruins and their captain, center Nate Thompson of Anchorage, fell 4-3 in OT at Portland, but still lead the Atlantic Division Finals, 2-1. Syracuse, which includes former UAA Seawolves defenseman Duvie Westcott, beat host Toronto 5-1 in Game 1 of the North Division Final.

In the International Hockey League, the Port Huron Icehawks earned a 4-1 win in the Finals opener over the Fort Wayne Komets, who drew 7,473 fans and include former UAA goalie Kevin Reiter. Reiter didn't play Friday, but expect him in the nets for Game 2 tonight -- that's just a guess.

Meanwhile, here inside Sullivan Arena late Friday night, the maintenance staff is already beginning work on taking apart the boards and glass.

So long, ECHL season.

Oh, and if you want to say so long to the Aces' players and staff, the team has scheduled a Fan Appreciation event for 7 p.m. Monday at Sullivan.

Good Year!

This was a good year. We had many injuries early on and we suffered through and didn't give up. This team finally got all the legs back on ice and they went to town winning games. These players, play this level of hockey, not only for a chance to move up, but because of their love of the game. They go out night after night and travel horrendous road trips for mere pennies on the dollar. They try to have a personal life as well, with families all over the place while they play in Alaska. The sacrifice they make for my entertainment is thanked from the bottom of my heart. These players, old or new, are my sole entertainment during the winter months. I do season tickets just for my joy of watching these lads. I have many friends through out the arena and I get to visit with them as well. Thank you Alaska Aces for what you do for me. I just wish I could do more for you!

Roller Coaster

It certainly was a roller coaster season with many highs and lows, but my son and I want to thank the Aces players and ticket people for another great season. Now, it's time to remember the good games and wait for next year. Again, thank you for all the fun!!!

aces

aces has done real good this year ,tonight they played as if it was over after the 1st period. they played excellent in the period. with the talent that is loaded up on the ak. team it is suprising that they couldn't even have a player at the net even for a rebound they were all either late or nowhere near the net
