A trooper stopped on the road to investigate a car crash spurred a pinball series of subsequent crashes. See the dispatch out of North Pole.

Type: Failure to Register as a Sex Offender
Text: On 4/30/08, at 1430 hours, Gilbert Sam, age 52 of Sitka, was
charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in the Second Degree.
Sam had moved from Sitka to Juneau and failed to file a change of
address. Sam was issued a summons to appear in court.

Type: Operate Vehicle Revoked/ Suspended
Text: On 4-30-08, Betsy M. Davey, age 22 of Juneau was charged with
operating a motor vehicle with a Revoked or Suspended drivers' license.
She was issued a summons and released at the scene. A relative with a
valid O/L was allowed to move the vehicle. Davey was also issued a
citation for operating the vehicle with an expired registration.

Type: Sex Offender Compliance/ Investigations
Text: During the month of April, Alaska State Troopers from the Juneau
and Haines posts along with the VPSO in Angoon registered 20 sex
offenders and conducted 32 address verifications. As a result, 2
individuals were charged with being out of compliance, one individual
was arrested for being out of compliance and 2 additional offenders were
located in Washington State. Their location and information has been
forwarded to local authorities. Compliance investigations were conducted
in Juneau, Sitka, Haines, Angoon, Kake and Skagway. Troopers were
assisted by the local police departments in each of the areas.
Additionally, State Troopers from the Alaska Bureau of Investigations
arrested a Juneau man for possession of child pornography. Juneau
currently has about 193 sex offenders who are required to register with
the state.

Text: On 4-29-08, at 1305 hours, AST received a report from an inmate
lodged at Lemon Creek Correctional Center that he had been physically
and verbally assaulted by a jail guard. AST responded and after
investigating, the report was determined to be unfounded.

Type: DV Assault 4
Text: On 4/30/08 at approximately 2017 hours, Troopers responded to the
report of an assault involving domestic violence at a residence located
on Bogard Road near Bear St., in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that
Preston D. Steele, age 24, of Wasilla assaulted a family member. Steele
was arrested, transported, and remanded to the Mat-Su Pre-Trial facility
without bail.

Type: Felony DUI/DWLR/Warrant Arrest
Text: On 05/01/2008 at approximately 0029 hours the AST South-Central
DUI Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Beverly
Lakes Rd. and Finbury Ln. in Wasilla for a moving violation after
receiving a REDDI report. The driver of the vehicle was identified as
Lyn D. Brown, age 47, of Wasilla. Investigation found Brown to be
operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and with a
revoked driver's license. Brown was also found to have been convicted
twice of DUI within the last 10 years making this DUI a felony. Brown
also had a $500.00 arrest warrant for failure to comply with alcohol
screening. Brown was arrested for Felony DUI, DWLR, and the outstanding
warrant. Brown was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held on
a bail of $5,500.00 cash and a court approved third party.

Text: On 4-15-08, the Alaska State Troopers in Bethel received a report
of an assault involving a male and female in the village of Chevak.

Type: MVA-D
Text: On 4/30/08 at about 0910 hours, Alaska State Troopers on patrol
discovered an occupied pickup upside down in the ditch in a Chena Ridge
neighborhood. Investigation revealed that moments before, Kitty Craft,
48, of Fairbanks, had been driving her 2005 Dodge truck north on West
Chena Hills Rd. when she lost control of her vehicle, went off the road,
and flipped the vehicle upside down as it went down a steep embankment.
Neither she nor her passenger were injured, mostly because both were
wearing their seatbelts.

Type: Motor Vehicle Collision-Injury
Text: On 04/30/2008, at 0753 hours, an Alaska State Trooper was
investigating a motor vehicle collision on Badger Road north of Topaz
Avenue, when another motor vehicle collision occurred behind the
Trooper. Investigation revealed Matthew Burris, 22 of Fairbanks was
operating a 2007 school bus traveling north on Badger Road approximately
500 feet north of Topaz Ave. Burris was slowing the bus as he passed
the emergency vehicle, when Raymond Heuer, 39 of Fairbanks, driving a
1998 Dodge pickup was traveling north behind the bus. Heuer tried to
brake to slow down to avoid colliding with the bus. When Heuer applied
his brakes, he lost control of the pickup and collided with the rear of
the bus. Heurer's pickup spun around into the oncoming traffic lane and
Christal Mann, 33, of Fairbanks was driving a 1994 Honda Civic
southbound on Badger Road when Heurer's pickup spun into her lane of
traffic resulting in a head on collision. North Star Volunteer Fire
Department responded to the scene and transported Mann and two of her
passengers, Mark Schill-Zontes, 11, of Fairbanks and Shelia
Schill-Zontes, 55, of Fairbanks, to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. All
individuals involved in the collision were wearing safety belts.
Heuer's pickup sustanined approximately $3000 dollars in damage, the
school bus sustained approximately $1000 dollars in damage and Mann's
car was totaled.
