David Carle Ranked 60th By Central Scouting

Defenseman David Carle of Anchorage, headed to the University of Denver in the fall, is ranked 60th among North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting's final rankings for this summer's draft.

Carle, 18, moved up from his position at No. 74 in Central Scouting's mid-term rankings.

What all this means is open to debate. The ranking at No. 60 doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be selected about 60th. The North American rankings don't take into account European skaters or goaltenders from throughout the world -- international skaters, North American goalies and international goalies are ranked separately.

On the other hand, David's big brother, San Jose Sharks blueliner Matt Carle, who won two national championships and the Hobey Baker Memorial Award at Denver, was listed No. 66 among North Americans skaters in the 2003 final rankings. Lo and behold, the Sharks nabbed him in the second round with the 47th pick overall.

In any event, David Carle is a lock to be drafted -- he's the only Alaskan I spotted in the rankings of 210 skaters. He's coming off back-to-back USA Hockey national championships with Shattuck-St. Mary's of Minnesota. He earned 13-38--51 totals in 61 games. Shattuck has produced such players as New Jersey Devils forward Zach Parise and Chicago Blackhawks rookie standout Jonathan Toews. Oh, and some dude named Crosby played there before going to major junior and then latching on with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

For what it's worth, Central Scouting measured David Carle at a quarter-inch shy of 5-foot-11, and 180 pounds. He shoots left.

The NHL draft is June 20-21 in Ottawa.

From A Public School Education And Liberal Arts Major, I Guess

thanks for the heads-up; fixed it, and added points and games played from nationals. Hopefully, my new improved math adds up.

Points?

"10-34-45 totals in 55 games" Where did the extra point come in Woody?
