Anime-ted argument

Our April 6 story on 5th grader Hatcher Johnson's trouble with fellow students and school administators because of his attempt to copy figures in a how-to-draw book has produced a bunch of comments from readers. See the story and how some responded here.

Manga-fied art

My 5th grade son and friends love all the anime and manga stuff. Naruto, Bleach and One Piece all have some good story lines and character development. Some of this is rated "Teen". Much of it is probably OK for elementary school. If you go to Bosco's, though, there is a special "adults only" section for comics. If you stroll through the aisles, you'lll see some objectified nearly naked girls looking quite promiscuous in their short skirts and heaving bosom see-through shirts. I got my son a couple "how to draw manga" books, but none of them contained bare naked women. I'd have to say that this young man should continue with his drawing and artwork. But study of the nude form probably needs to stay home.

I remember

I remember looking at some of my dad's sketches from when he was a kid. Soldiers in battle. It's true that art is a reflection of society.
Johnson really is not the one to go after here, is he?
Drop Dead Gorgeous Manga Babes? That's the problem.
